Crown Mediterranean Adventures

Almost completed our cruise, which I will expand on when we get home, due to lack of Internet minutes.

However, I just want to say a very big thank you to Captain Justine Rhodes, who led a very moving Memorial Service this morning to a packed theatre ( standing room only) to the victims of The Manchester terrorist attack on May 22nd 2017. We scattered lilies into the sea, one for each victim.

I too was on this cruise and was at the service. Did you manage to get an order of service? If so can you tell me the title and author of the reading that Paul did? I tried to get a copy at reception but they were all gone. It was very moving. Thanks

That last sentence should have said ' should have left'

Mediterranean honey

We were talking to a couple on the last morning, who said they thought the Crown didn't compare well to Regal.

As we hadn't been on any Princess ship previously, we had nothing to compare it to!

I will have to look up my cruise documents, which are in my suitcase. We are at my son's in Surrey at the moment and I cannot just think exactly where I put them, but I will look when we get home, but I've a feeling it just said 'a reading by Paul' ( CD who was born in Manchester; he must have had a will of iron to be able to read that, as his voice wavered a few times!)

Linda wanted know that as well but there was no author on the order of service. Our copy is still coming home if you have the title you could google it..

Really enjoying your review as we are sailing on the Crown Princess late July for our honeymoon. You seem to have had a wonderful time so far and this does put some of my fears to rest as there have been some terrible reviews of the Crown on here.

It's good to here about the weight limit for the cases as you rightly say this isn't mentioned and we can plan for that.

Looking forward to the next instalment.

Just to clarify the weight limit mentioned is an upper limit per case. You can take as many multiples of this as you wish so long as you can fit them in your cabin!

Also this limit is not enforced and the cases are not weighed. Should your porter find one of your bags is probably over they may put a heavy sticker on it but this is as warning for other people handling it to take care. Your bag will never be refused or will you be asked to take stuff out.

We are a family of 4 who regularly cruise from Southampton with 8 cases and we have never had a problem.

Happy honeymoon! x

Hi Dai,

Hope you had a good journey home. Paul said it was called What If but I have tried googling it but cannot find the right 'What If'. I was disappointed I didn't manage to get a copy from reception.....I was told they were all gone!

Cheers!

18.05.17 Ajaccio

The day started early with a 'Coffee break' talk with Harry Rednapp, which was interesting.

We actually arrived an hour early, 11am instead of noon, even though we had left Barcelona 2 hrs late.

We walked off the ship and into the town square, where we took a picture of Napoleon's statue. We then saw a sign for free internet, so we sat at a bar near it, but we couldn't get a signal.

Afterwards we walked down to the coast and along the sea front towards a fort.

We went into the church then round to the harbour. We saw donkeys in the courtyard of the fort then the harbour around the corner.

There were plenty of bars along the front, overlooking the cruise ships( MSC Orchestra has been following us) so we sat at one and got a week internet signal. ddd24b5cbb62ff769eedeaf0f69d0a30.jpgToo soon it was time to return to the ship.

19.05.17 Rome ( on your own)

I set the alarm for 05.30 and we went to the Horizon for breakfast. Even at 06.15 it was very busy and seats were difficult to find.

At 7 am we went into the Wheelhouse bar to be given brown sticker #3. We were then directed to the theatre, where we sat for about 15 minutes, until called for disembarkation, on deck 5. We were guided to the disembarkation point and quickly boarded on to bus Brown 3 ( which had no toilet facilities)

The journey to Rome took 90 minutes and we arrived at 9 am, into a bus garage. We were escorted to St Peter's Square and told to return at 1.45pm, so we quickly arranged a Hop on Hop off bus ride, for €20, from a man who walked up to us at our drop off point. He took us to his office, at the back of a shop, but he did have toilets available.

We

then had quite a trek to find the bus, one of the passengers from the ship guiding us, as he had been given instructions in Italian. The tour lasted 2 hrs, it should have been 90 minutes, so I consider we had a reasonable deal, even though we had paid €20 instead of €16, which apparently was the cost if you stayed on the bus for the round trip!

On the walk back to St Peter's square we saw significant crowds, which had built up since we had been on the bus.

We paused on the walk back to St Peter's Square to take pictures of the River Tiber---

Our assembly point was to the right of the crossing.

A last look through the bus window!

I was disappointed with the amount of time we were given in Rome and 5 passengers decided not to join us on the return journey. The guide waited 25 minutes for them but as he and the bus were on a tight schedule he decided that they had been given long enough.

LOL, My wife and I had a lunch and asked for a beer, the waiter asked 'If we wanted a large or a small beer?'

Not seeing any glasses on display and being thirsty, we opted for the large and ended up with steins of beer like that one. The beers cost more than our pizza.:D

Britcruzer15 Suggest you look in to Italy session on Cruise Critic. You will find much information

on taking the train yourself. The ticket BRIG? is good for subway, and buses. With a little

planning you can do a wonderful day trip into Rome easily. Rome is very walkable, and is off

times faster to walk than take a bus, cab.

20.05.17 Florence

Starting time was 7.30 am in the Fusion bar. We booked Room Service breakfast, as we were afraid that there would be so many people at the Horizon that we would be unable to get a seat. We ordered a breakfast roll, which consisted of bacon, egg and cheese. Mine came without cheese as I am Lactose Intolerant. I had ordered Lactose Free milk, which came labelled.

Again we were given ticket 3 (silver) but this time when we were called we went directly to Deck 4 for disembarkation.

A 90 minute trip to Florence, during which our guide talked non stop. This continued when we reached Florence, which was quite a surprise, as I thought we had booked 'Florence on your own.' Apparently I had booked 'Florence and time on you own.'

When the guided tour had finished, we found a cafe overlooking the square where we sat for a few hours and had drinks and lunch.
