Pre-Cruise Purchases

In the past, any purchases that we made prior to sailing counted toward our onboard spending for Mariner credits. We just booked our Cabana and the Ultimate Dining plan for our upcoming Koningsdam sailing, but the Ship Services rep wasn't sure if that was still the case.

Does anyone know if pre-cruise purchases still count?

Thank you!!

I'm confused. If you buy wine or shore excursions prior to your cruise it counts toward how many days you have sailed on HAL?

For every $300 you spend -- you get 1 day credit.

HAL totals all your pre-cruise spending (excursions, gifts, alcohol, specialty restaurants, etc.) and all your onboard spending. So if you have spent $1200 -- you would 4 days (4 points).

KK is correct, you will get an additional day credit for every $300 you spend BUT ONLY (as RuthC notes above) if all those purchases are "attached" to your HAL Booking Number.

Even better (based on our experience with more than a dozen cruises since the new system was implemented in late-September 2009), HAL is very generous in ROUNDING UP your spending amount - for instance, if you spend $375, you will get 2 days credit and not just 1. Pretty nifty IMO.

Also keep in mind that the total number of "spending bonus" days cannot exceed the number of days in your cruise - so on a 7-day cruise you will only receive 7 "spending bonus" days even if you were to spend more than $2,100 ...

Smooth sailing ...

Bolding mine.... this is worth noting as you can make purchases in the shops that are quite high but, as stated here, you can only "earn" as many "spending cruise days" as the length of the cruise. You can only earn 10 "spending cruise days" on a 10 day cruise, 13 on a 13 day cruise, etc.

No need to call, it's listed in the FAQ's under Mariner info when you log in.

Just click my account. Casino and OBC (until it is spent) do not count of course, but everything else does :)

Bumping this informative thread with a related question. For a booking with two passengers, do both passengers gain the Mariner points, or only the passenger on whose folio the particular charge appears?

I'm planning to book an excursion or two in Alaska and I'm considering how to apply the excursion charges. We're both booked on the same booking number...

Both Guest One and Two, in the same cabin, earn the same amount of cruise day credits. It is based on the total amount spent by all guests in the cabin, no matter who did the actual spending or who is paying the final bill.

Just to add, if you book a suite you get 'double' cruise day credits. Book a suite for a 10 day cruise, you get 20 cruise day credits. But, you can only earn a maximum of 10 'spending cruise days' credits (equal to the length of the cruise). For example, the maximum you can earn on a 10 day cruise, with a suite booked, is 30 days credit.
