is it a tender port? Usually if the ship tender, then there is a group for ship shore excursions people, group for the haven/suite guests..

for other ports, there is no ship shore excursions people. you just walk off of the ship whenever you want once the ship docks.

Are you doing the Western Med itinerary on the Epic? If so, your only (scheduled) tender port is Cannes, and the first few tenders that day require a reservation, if you don't have an NCL shore excursion ticket (you can read about the tendering procedure in the Freestyle Daily that Ned11 posted here).

In the other ports, they make an announcement when the ship is cleared for people to get off, and everyone can get off. It is possible that some people with shore excursions receive instructions to meet beforehand and they get escorted to the gangway before this announcement happens. If you really need to be the among the first ones off the ship, you can figure out where the exit is going to be and wait there (they really don't like people doing that, but you probably won't be the only one trying to do it…)

I will be booking my shore excursions through other sources other than Norwegian Epic, can any one tell me how we get off the ship, are we allowed to leave the ship before the ship shore excursion people.

As others have posted, no need to worry if the ship is docked. Your other excursion "sources" will wait for those registered with them.
