Luminae

First Celebrity cruise and we have booked a Sky Suite, which as I understand it, allows us to dine at Luminae.

On my booking page, it says we have got Celebrity Select Dining, which I take to mean we aren't fixed to a set time. So, do we just turn up each night, or do we need to book a table for each evening - Manage my Reservation doesn't show Luminae when I looked at booking times.

The dailies from the Reflection say it's open seating, but reservations are recommended and give you a ship's extension to phone. We're not suite people, but I read and retain information very well. ;)

You will probably be asked what time you want to dine each evening. This is more for capacity control rather than a strict reservation. We chose 8:00 on our last cruise and a few nights wanted to dine earlier. There was only one time they could not accommodate us.

Oh also, there is open seating Lunch in Luminae and they serve breakfast in there as well. There was no mention of seating regarding breakfast.

If you're in a suite your assigned (if you will) dining room is Luminae. You may eat in the MDR or Blu on a space available basis (your butler or Michaels Concierge could probably help you with that). The select dining is you select your time (if you want the same time I'd let them know that on the first night). I have food allergies so my first stop on board is the dining room to speak with maitre d.

Can I ask another question please? Since booking 2 days ago, the price has dropped quite a bit! I know some lines will drop the price if the passenger notices and contacts them. Does Celebrity do this?

I'm not sure how it works for UK cruisers, so maybe someone else can chime in. I do know that US cruisers, who booked through a TA (that's my only experience), can do an adjustment or a cancel/rebook anytime before final payment is due without incurring a penalty. UK cruisers who book through a US based TA can likely go through the same sort of adjustment process, but I am not 100% certain of that. Sorry that I can't be more helpful. You might try posting a new topic and be sure to mention that you are a UK cruiser in the topic.

We sailed recently on Sillhouette, were suite travelers and just let the Luminae maitre d' or Michael's concierge know what time we wanted to dine in Lunminae....Luminae was our favorite place for breakfast, so usually at breakfast, we let them know what our plans were for lunch (if applicable) and dinner (even if we were dining in a specialty restaurant). They got to know us by site in Lumniae, were always ready with our usual beverages etc and always accomidated us at our favorite table and waiter location. They also would provide different dishes upon request (my husband is a beef and potato diner, so at times nothing on the Luminae menu appealed and they would find something that he would like. At times I only wanted a "green salad" and they would find that for me too.)

But, we always communicated our plans. They always seemed eager to accommodate. Have a great trip!

While your butler may encourage you to make reservations in Luminae, the Luminae maitre' d will most likely tell you to arrive when convenient. And remember that Luminae is only open for lunch on sea days.

Sorry, I missed that about lunch, and should've realized as it is the same as MDR. I checked a daily for a port day and it was open for breakfast.

I have no idea, will have to wait until May to find out.

Luminae has its own menu not the same as MDR, Blu or any of the speciality restaurants. We never made reservations for dinner and only once had to wait & that was less than 5 minutes.

Luminae menu is MUCH different than the MDR and Blu. For one, there are less selections. I have heard you can order from the MDR menu, if you like. On the one 4 day cruise we were in a suite, we skipped Luminae one night because nothing on the menu was appealing. We ate in Blu instead. We also ate breakfast in Blu because the breakfast in Luminae did not offer tableside muesli, DW's favorite breakfast. Luminae will challenge your taste buds.

Good assumption since Luminae is open for breakfast everyday.

We were on the Reflection this past May. Enjoyed Lumimae very much but were able to order off the MDR menu on those noghts nothing appealed to us. Beautifully presented. They even brought me MDR breadsticks, which I love, without my asking after the first few noghts. Wonderful service. Enjoy.

We were in Aqua Class on our last sailing and in a Suite on our next. We were given select dining for Aqua, even though our restaurant was BLU. My understanding is that the select dining assignment is a standard computer thing and has no bearing on either BLU or Luminea as they are both open seating. If there are any waits for a table in Luminea I understand you can hang out in Michael's Club until they are ready for you.

There is no reason to dine in the mdr if you are in a suite. You can order anything from the mdr menu in luminae and have the benefit of the wonderful intimate ambiance

On port days you can use bistro on 5 free

On our last cruise, each morning our butler would ask what time we wanted to have dinner that night so that he could make a reservation in Luminae for us.

We would politely explain that we are on vacation and do not like being tied to a fixed schedule, so we prefer not to make a reservation but instead would go to Luminae whenever we felt like having dinner.

(As readers have probably already guessed, we choose Select dining when we are not in a suite for that very reason.)

Every day our butler would then reply that we will not be able to get into Luminae if he does not make a reservation for us in advance, to which we would respond that was fine, please don't worry about it; we are willing to take our chances and will have dinner elsewhere if necessary.

Having dined in Luminae many times before on previous cruises where showing up whenever we wanted without a reservation was never a problem, we declined his offer every time.

We checked with the hostess on duty at the entrance to Luminae, and she confirmed that no reservations are necessary, encouraging us just to show up whenever we like.

No matter what time we showed up for dinner at Luminae, we were seated quickly, without any reservations.

Similarly, on formal nights the butler would ask what time we would be going to the show so that he could escort us to our seats, and we always declined that offer as well.

We did not want to make the poor guy feel useless and unneeded, so we accepted his offers for other things, even though we didn't really want or need most of them either. :D

Lunch is free on port days for all suite guests because Luminae is not open for lunch those days. Free breakfast and dinner apply to Royal Suites & above.

It us free for suite guests if Luninae is closed for lunch.
