We are in Dubai in January and have a 2 day hoho bus pass and a desert safari lined up.

Then off on a cruise, can't wait.

Can I ask what you paid for your 2 day HOHO bus pass. And what is the currency in Dubai please?

I am a thrifty cruiser , my wife calls it something else :p

Fly into Dhabi in April 2017 , on a Wednesday then we want to take the bus on Saturday heading to Ahu Dhabi to catch the Constellation

So looking for a good bang for your dollar hotel central located. When we search hotels what area should be looking at ?

Are most things closed on Friday or Saturday ?

Thanks

If you are flying into Dubai, a central location would be the downtown area which is near Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall and Dubai Fountains. Try Towers Rotana. Great rate for the area in a nice hotel and right at a metro station which is one or two very short stops to BK and Dubai Mall & Dubai Fountains. There are plenty of places to get coffee in the morning so I looked at the standard room rate for a mid week in April.

This is not the beach area nor the creek area. If you stay along Sheik Zayed Road or Mohammed bin Rashid Blvd you will be in the heart of downtown.

Let us know what you want to do and what the thrifty budget range is and we can make further suggestions:)

Are you planning to take the bus to Abu Dhabi from Ibn Battuta Mall or the central bus station?

The malls will be open regular hours on Friday. The traditional Bastakiya neighborhood and the souks will be closed on Fridays until later in the afternoon. Everything is open on Saturday regular hours.

Lilybob, when you book an inside cabin at $599 USD for 15 nights , it hard to spend the same amount for 3 night in a hotel :D

We spent many vacation on beaches so that being on a beach now is not important

I have not done much research on the bus yet but thanks for that information

That will be very useful

Is they a local food market, as that is one thing we like to visit

Thanks for the info

I'll give it one more try but I can't beat the ship:D

These are in the historic area of Dubai near the creek and the souks. This is a good place to visit as well to see the historic center of the city. It is also near the Sheik Mohammed Center for Cultural Understanding which I would recommend.

Arabian Courtyard (Bur Dubai side of creek)

Radisson Blu Dubai Creek (Deira side)

You will most likely end up taking taxis from here to get to the downtown area but taxis are pretty thrifty in Dubai:D

Even if you don't stay in the creek area, visit the Spice Souk on the Deira side of the creek. The Gold Souk is also on this side (for your wife!) And ride the small abras across the creek for one dirham ($.27)

The supermarkets in Dubai are very modern and carry a lot of things you will find familiar. They will also carry a wide range of Indian spices and fruits/vegetables. You can check out Waitrose in Dubai Mall or Carrefour if you visit Mall of the Emirates.

For Middle Eastern things I would go to the Lifco store on Sheik Zayed Road near the Financial Center metro station......not far from Rotana Towers or Dubai Mall.

It's in the region of £50, one of the most expensive we've been on.

It does offer three different routes and gives free water.

The currency is the dihram I think

thanks for your reply. That is quite expensive, but worth considering, since we will be flying halfway around the world to get there;)

Yes the currency in the United Arab Emirates is the Durham (AED).

I find the HoHo bus in Dubai (and Muscat, Oman).

Too expensive and a rip off compared to the ones in Europe or USA.

you are better off deciding on what you want to see and then take taxis in between the places in Dubai

Also consider try excellent and dirt cheap new Dubai Metro. (Note that on Friday it only starts around noon!)
