What happens during the week before Mardi Gras in Zihua, Manzanillo and Puerto Vallarta?

We will be in Zihua the Saturday before, Manzanillo on Sunday and PV overnighting Monday til Tuesday at 6pm.

We were in Ensenada the weekend before a few years ago and had lots of fun at the street fair and parade.

There is a yearly Mardi Grass Parade in Puerto Vallarta in the evening. Unfortunately for you you are leaving a bit too early that day.

According this website it will take place on Tuesday February 9, in the evening. http://www.mardigraspv.com/

The parade in PV (mentioned by our amigo, Ine) is held at nighttime so is of little benefit to cruisers (unless they happen to overnight). We find the parade very entertaining, but it is a small amateurish event.

It is an overnight in Puerto Vallarta, February 9-10.

Then you are in luck :). The parade usually starts in a park just north of the Malecon, moves slowly through Centro and then ends by winding its way through the southside (Romantic Zone or Old Town). What you would see is a few amateurish floats, quite a few bare chested gay men, and other locals who have lots of fun strutting their stuff. We had a lot of fun watching the parade this year as it came through the area we live (southside) about 9:30. But keep in mind this is a local kind of thing and does not compare (in any way) to what you see in places like New Orleans or Rio. What you will not see in this parade are many Mexicans and most of the participants are from the local expat community, gay clubs, bars, etc.

Thanks. Sounds very different than what we saw in Ensenada. It was a real local parade.
