Lori Dobson Posted July 21, 2017 #1 Share Posted July 21, 2017 Hello Fellow CC Members, Looking for advice from cruises who have recently visited Russia. We have a 3 day excursion booked - if you went on an excursion, how did you tip? In Dollars, Eruros, or Rubles? How much did you tip - a percentage of the tour price, or a specific amount per day? Thanks for the help!
Rare LHT28 Posted July 21, 2017 #2 Share Posted July 21, 2017 If using a private guide they will give you a guideline for the tipping amounts Usually 10-15% to the guide & 5% to the driver some will take USD, Euro, GBP & Rubles (if you have them) Check with the tour guide If a shorex a few $ for the bus driver + depending on the guide & length of tour tip what you feel comfortable with jmo
Rare pinotlover Posted July 21, 2017 #3 Share Posted July 21, 2017 Just back from North Russia. We were advised to tip in rubles there. They take a beating doing money exchange. In St. Petersburg, they were happy with US dollars or the Euro over rubles. Our Russian tour guide there wintered in Europe, and saved the Euros for then. Also, many seemed to drive to Finland from St. Pete for better shopping. Took the tips with them.
Earl Rosebery Posted July 22, 2017 #4 Share Posted July 22, 2017 The suggested tip is 10% for the guide and 5 for the driver. (It's possible you won't have the same ones each day) ( best to check). We gave the guide more. She was that good. You don't need Rubles for anything except a small coin or 2 for some of the toilets ( marked WC in Russia
Mylisa Posted July 23, 2017 #5 Share Posted July 23, 2017 We just came back yesterday and we tipped the same as other people advised you. We tipped in US $ in St. Petersburg with no problem. They do want crisp undamaged bills with no writing on them. We had to go to the pharmacy also and used our Visa card with no problem.
