Freighters on the Great Lakes

Recommended Posts

My husband has always expressed interest in traveling on one of the many freighters that travel the Great Lakes and I'm wondering if there are any that allow passengers to just ride along? He enjoys watching them go through the locks at Sault Ste. Marie, and we saw quite a few this past September in Port Huron as well.

Yvonne,

Make contact with the admin at Boat Nerds and another good resource is the admin at the Valley Camp Museum Ship at Sault Ste. Marie. I used to work there and several of my friends are still in the area actively involved with Boat Nerd and the museum. They're not directly affiliated but I know they can direct you to where you need to be. In fact, if you call the Valley Camp ask for Paul....he's your best bet. I know somehow a former co-worker of mine snagged a trip aboard a freighter so don't give up yet!
