Christchurch Avon River punting or Antarctica Center

I'm looking at two different tours from Akaroa that go to Christchurch. Both tour the city highlights but one includes the Avon River punting, the other a visit to the Antarctica Center. To those who have done these, which would you do and why? Having trouble deciding and husband is not helping me.

I have done both and my vote would be for the Antarctic Center, hands down. Not only is it an interesting museum, but there are special attractions such as the Antarctic Storm that add so much to the experience. I hope that your tour allows you at least 2 - 3 hours at the Antarctic Center.

The punting on the Avon is nice, but it's just a boat ride.

We went to the Antarctic Centre some years ago and it was fantastic. The Antarctic Storm experience is not to be missed.

As a previous long-term resident of Christchurch - definitely the Antarctic Centre. It is a great experience as opposed to a scenic boat ride.

I used Shore Tours for this one. My son loved the Antarctic Centre.

They run a shuttle from the City. When we did it we went on the local bus to the airport, as that's where the Centre is..........however when a large cruise ship is in town they get very busy , and could give preference to booked tours.

I'm not sure that you couldn't do both? Punting on the Avon is a lovely little boat ride, but it only takes about 30 minutes? Admittedly, I've only done NZ by land (driving myself around). I think renting a car and doing both in Christchurch would be a great day.
