Upgrades for Costa club

"The Upgrade and SuperUpgrade will be applied to cruises booked for departure in the next calendar year and purchased at standard rate (no discounted fares or special discounts). The privilege is not transferable to third parties and is only applied to the cabin in which the Member is entitled to travel."

Who pays the full price ever? When you book on the Costa site the prices are usually discounted. So being Perla Oro does not seem to automatically give you an upgrade to a suite if you have done more cruises than the previous year.

Any experience or comments?

When on the Pacifica last March (2016), we booked our next cruise for Neo Romatica cruising from Mauritius in December 2016.

We got various discounts, booking onboard, premium cabin, Pearl discount, which gave us a very good price, so we confirmed the booking.

Next day the booking confirmation was received and we had been upgraded to premium outside, as we cruise once last year and two this year.

Hi again

We've actually had 2 upgrades in the past. Once on the NeoRomantica from inside to sea view. I cannot remember when we were notified. The other time was on the Diadema from balcony to superduper Samsara balcony with jacuzzi. This time we did not have a cabin number allocated for ages and when we finally got it it was the upgrade.

I suggested hubby called them and asked as we already have a balcony cabin allocated. Cross fingers.

I tried to het on their hopeless site this afternoon to see if any suites were still available but it timed out on me time and again.

We have never had an upgrade when booking through Costa, but when we book a guarantee cabin with our TA we always get upgraded to balcony premium from outside premium.

We are wondering when our suite upgrade will happen, but don't really care as we are getting such good discounts and perks. We will try to keep our pearl gold status :)

Hello everyone. We also are club perla ora members and Costa is our preferred cruise line. Whenever we have had a query, customer services have always got back to us very quickly. We booked to go on the 20 night cruise from Savona to Dubai over 18 months ago,and things changed ie different ship and leaving from Venice instead of Savona. They informed of us this change and asked if we still would like to go, or we could cancel and receive all money back. We chose to sail and much to our surprise and delight we found we'd been upgraded to a suite. We queried this and we were told that as we were club perla ora members and very loyal customers we were upgraded. Thank you Costa. We are looking forward to our cruise on the Neoriviera in 8 weeks time and will post our thoughts on the ship and the suite life, this will be the first time for us in a suite. Happy cruising.

We have ben up-graded to a suite twice this year, this is because last year we only cruised once on the Diadema. (June to June we were told)

The new club rules state if you cruise more this year than last you will receive a suite up-grade IF available, so book early, also at the moment you will receive the Indentore drinks package free. As this become more widely known they will run out of suites & it will be book interior & get best available premium cabin.

The club status has no baring on these up-grades.

Pearla Diamante guests now can eat in separate area of MDR or specialty Restaurant, & very nice it is too.

Hi everyone

Thanks for all your responses.

I suggested hubby called Costa about an upgrade. And we got one! We originally booked a premium balcony. We received our cabin number on booking. He called them and she said last suite left and booked it for us. Now on deck 7. I was very surprised that the drinks package and a spa pass for one day was included. I thought the upgrade only gave you the suite without all the added benefits. Have to say that is a cracking deal.

I have another question about upgrades. If you are Perla diamante and accordig to club rules you will get a super upgrade everytime. Does that apply if you book inside cabins as well? Or do you just get an upgrade to the next best cabin?

We only cruise with Costa(at the moment) and our 11th cruise is in just over 5 weeks. It's our 4th for the year. We are totally hooked.

I have mentioned in another post that we are looking at the India cruise on the NeoClassica in February. I think we'll be Perla diamante after that one.

Happy cruising.

There are now two types of upgrade:

1. The "older" one where Costa did not have enough vacant cabins in a particular category or they offered passengers an upgrade but without the additional perks.

2. Costa Club upgrades includes all the perks.

Both Pearl Diamond and Pearl Gold both get the "Super" upgraded upto a suite (if suites are available if not then the next lower category i.e. balcony).

Have a look at point 8.8 in this link:

Paid the balance for our next 2 cruises yesterday. My husband phoned. I shoukdve told him to ask about an upgrade!

We are pearl diamanté - not gold as I previously stated.

We ate in the club restaurant on our last cruise but found that they served us too fast so every meal was rushed.

We eat in 'Suite Restaurant' for our breakfast and lunch as we seldom now go ashore, so a leisurely lunch there is ideal for us with no crowds or rush, yet like you found it rather rushed in the evening, even after telling them to slow down. So we saw Maître D' and was moved into MDR on a table of English speakers which we prefer for our evening meals.

For our cruise next week we have already said MDR for evening meal only which has been promised, will let you know on our return if our wishes were met on boarding.

One other great perk is the free luggage delivery for Pearla Diamante members, we have been using BagExpress.it ever since Costa recommended them, they are excellent & very reliable, you can track your cases all the way to the ship, this perk saved us many Euros on our June Cruise.

Book-in for any flight before leaving home & walk through Security with just hand luggage & be ready for boarding within one hour, Magic.

If using don't forget to pack one change each, just in case of a mistake.

It would be nice if they did the luggage transfer for American's.

There are also other benefits of Pearl Diamond we don't receive.

Yes must admit some things are available for us with new club rules, but as usual they cover themselves quite well.

We Europeans moan about paying for water with dinner, we in the UK seldom get any OBC or added drink packages.

I got a quote on board for Neo Romantica the following year priced in Euros with AI drinks & 150 E's OBC, when I went to book it when we got home I was told price in Sterling, no added extras, the difference was just over £500.

Looking forward to being Perla Diamante and getting that luggage transfer perk. Save a little extra on the dreaded Ryanair.:D

I wonder whether we will get the club restaurant because of the suite or whether that is excluded because it's an upgrade. I have scoured that section of the rules and regulations but still don't find it particularly clear.

Can't be too bothered. Just looking forward to cruising.

Caspall let hubby call Costa and ask for the upgrade if they have not done it automatically. As I said, looks as if you don't ask you don't necessarily get!

As for OBC, we have received varying amounts since we became Perla. The best was the very first time when hubby got 10 Euro and said I could decide on a number on Roulette. Had to use in the Casino then. One spin of the wheel and I won 300E. The staff could not believe their eyes. Neither could we! We left immediately with our spoils. Tried a few times since and no such luck. Now use it for other things.

Suite perks excluded for upgrade.

Unless upgraded because of Pearl Diamond. Then included.

Can confirm what Salve said automatic restaurant upgrade to a either Club/Samsara or separate area of main restaurant, we were upstairs on one side on the Magica in June, but I think now all specialty Restaurant's are now closing as part of the up-grades and the need to increase suite privilege's.

We did enjoy one evening a week 'upstairs' lingering over a nice dinner and bottle of wine, & because it was free that added to the enjoyment, now if they are closing these restaurant's will miss that part of the cruise.

On the Magica they just said closed for refurbishment.

Any one know for sure, just looked at Pacifica we are on her next week and just showing Pizza & Burgers no Other Restaurants'

Maybe they don't Club doesn't appear because it is reserved now. Had our freebie in Samsara on the Luminosa mid-July. Exact same menu as the one on the Pacifica in May.

We're on the Fascinosa 5w today(who says I am counting) and I'll also report back.

I think the pizzas are a good deal if you want to pay. Not sure about the burgers as we've never had them. On the Pacifica they were only available quite late in the evening. Not sure about lunch time. I did not see anything on oure recent travels. Not sure I'd be keen to pay 10 euro for a burger.

Sort of a tag along with all the stuff about upgrades.

I was looking at all the info on points and perks and noted that Costa says that the new points system does not apply to Asian cruises. I could not find what the alternative was or did they mean Costa Asia?

Though English is not my mothertongue I sometimes despair at their website and the languarge. Looks as if they use Google translate at times.

Does anybody have infoo on this?

Looks like the old Club Restaurant's are being turned into Suite/Perla Diamante ones now along with some Samsara. seems about right given the numbers that will get upgrade and higher rankings.

Still appears that different Areas are getting different perks, but can confirm all suite perks were given guests on our last cruise, (as told to us by guests on next table) good luck I say.

Our cases were picked up Monday are now in Milan waiting for delivery to ship, I really can recommend Bag Express to any one who now gets the perk. for us it was worth paying for even before we got it. The Butler even wrapped them in film on the Magica and collected them himself at 7.00am day we got off, & took them to terminal.

Excellent Tenpin!

I must say we miss the old style restaurant - the steaks etc were so good. We always had our 1 freebie then paid for another nights dinner. The dinner in there now is just the same as in the MDR

Yes we loved the old club Restaurant's best one for us was on the old Tropicale we were on a table in MDR where our table mates were bad mannered & really rudely behaved on the first night, tried to get a change from Maître D' but nothing available so we ate in Club restaurant for 11 days it was wonderful they even cooked us something that was not on the menu two of the nights. The fish soup was to die for.
