With a DCL Wonder 4-day coming up in February, I'm actually toying with the idea of planning ahead and skipping "Moana" in theaters, expecting it'll play the BVT, and I can get my "prem-EAR" viewing at sea.

They tend to include recent un-Blu-ray'ed movies with the in-theater lineup, would that be realistic to hope for?

The chance that Moana will be playing onboard is good. The movies run longer onboard the ships than they do on land.

Yes, certainly a reasonable expectation, and very very likely. If it bombs at the theater, it may only be shown once or twice during the cruise, but that is very unlikely.

According to Scott's latest blogs of the Navigator, they're showing "The BFG" in the afternoons and "Pete's Dragon" almost nonstop, and if you didn't see BFG in the original theaters, SHAME on you.

(Besides, John Musker & Ron Clements movies never flop, so--well, okay, there was Princess & the Frog, but that was a week before Avatar, and Eisner sank "Treasure Planet" himself. And we LIKE Hercules now.)

Ummmm, if you've read Scott's blog and know what movies are playing, why are you asking us if Moana will be showing? You have just as good of a prediction as we do.

And no, shame on me. I have not seen the BFG in a movie theater.

Well, just, y'know...thought it was a good idea to pass along, for anyone else who wanted to plan ahead.

If I knew it was a Star Wars Day at Sea cruise, I'd probably skip Rogue One, but...it isn't. :(

(Also, haven't been in the BVT yet, so thought someone say passing good things about that.)

Well it's a beautiful movie theater, designed and decorated as they were back in the 20's and 30's.

It has state of the art projection and is 3D projection enabled for certain movies, and an amazing sound system to fully immerse you in the film.

I'm 6' 1" and I was comfortable in the seats on the few times I watched a movie in there (including a Harry Potter movie I had no idea about as I had not watched the previous movie), however, some people complain about not enough leg room or the seats being too small. It is not like modern movie theater's with reclining seats, they just bend backwards a little. Also no cup holders!

They usually have popcorn for sale outside BVT before the movie.

Oh and it's included in the cruise fare.

Here is a picture of the refurbished BVT on the Wonder from @PopularCruising:

I'm one who feels BVT doesn't have enough leg room and the seats are too cramped....and I'm not nearly as tall as Techie. But it is a good looking theater. Most of the time, the technician even knows how to show the movie. And when he doesn't, all the teens do, but he won't listen to them!

As a note, the last row in the theatre has MUCH less leg room than the others.

Nice--Old fashioned seats, no cup-holders! :D

How's the Access, though, unlike my local newfangled cineplex?

(Website mentions that chair guests should "ask employees ten minutes before showtime" for seating, what's the process?)

Access is from Deck 5 Aft on the Classic ships.

There are disabled seating zones at the back of the theater, or depending on the mobility of the Guest, they could be assisted into one of the regular seats.

OK, I was slimmer back then....... A lot slimmer..... :o

I remember you posting about the PS3 symbol showing on the screen!

They have professional movie payback systems now thank goodness!

There basically is no process in the BVT. Wheelchair guests are seated in the very back. Families can be seated with them in folding chairs or can sit in a regular theatre seat. Not sure why whatever site you read said to come 10 minutes early.

In the WDT, wheelchair guests who can transfer (Magic and Wonder) can be seated in front. The doors open 30 minutes before the show and you must be escorted thru "crew only" area by a CM. The seats are not reserved, so you need to get there early. They won't ask an able bodied guest to move to allow a HA guest to have one of these seats. If there are no front row seats and guest cannot walk up a step or two, there is wheelchair seating at the back with seats for family. Front and center is prime little kid area; usually there are seats on the sides that are available. If you use one of these seats, the chair will be taken to a secure area by a CM and returned to you after the show.

Our funny....we were told to wait for CM to bring the chair, so we sat there chatting. Polite overhead announcement, "We need all guests to clear the theatre so we can prepare for the next show." No wheelchair, so we continued to sit and chat. House manager finally came down and politely asked us to leave. I replied that we'd be delighted to do so but that we had been instructed to wait until a CM brought the wheelchair for my friend. The poor guy nearly fell over himself apologizing. Seems they had a change of shift and the person who went off duty failed to relay the fact that there was a wheelchair in the storage area. House manager was just mortified. We truly thought nothing of it, but he acted as if his announcement had been the rudest thing ever (it had NOT.)

As to your original comment, movies do tend to hang around on the ships a lot longer than in the theatres. The longer the cruise, the more "older" movies you'll have access to.

I'm not a bit sure that I follow the logic that even though you had the information you wanted, you posted to somehow be provocative or stimulate conversation? If there is something you want to know, just ask. There are people here who probably have the answer. However, we are not good at mind reading or answering unasked questions.

Well, that's always the problem--You ask something and THEN you happen to find out Scott's blog probably had it all along, and should have looked there first.

So, you have to figure out a way to just turn it into a nice info chat, so it won't look embarrassing. :o

Actually, the website does not say chair Guests should "ask employees ten minutes before showtime" for seating, it does say:

Accessibility

Designated wheelchair viewing is available in the theatre. For more information on seating locations and availability, stop by Guest Services or call the Guest Services line from your stateroom. Guests needing assistance with wheelchair viewing should contact a Crew Member outside the theater entrance at least 10 minutes prior to show time.

https://disneycruise.disney.go.com/onboard-activities/buena-vista-theater/?CMP=SOC-PINTEREST20151204183000

So not entirely true on your interpretation. It says there are designated locations, and if you need assistance, then contact a CM 10 minutes prior to the movie.

I have a cruise with my daughter on March 12 and she really like Beauty and the Beast. The live action version is currently scheduled to release on March 17. Does Disney ever run anything on the ship before it is released in the theaters on land?

It has happened but it is usually only a day early and the ship doesn't have a port day until the official release date. Bottom line, if your cruise is a week long, you will have a PremEar at Sea event. If your cruise ends prior to the 17th, it won't be on board.

If you disembark on the 17th, there will likely be a midnight showing....you didn't want to sleep anyhow, did you?

I think the BVT is quite pretty, and I really like being able to keep my head and eyes straight and not have to look "up" at the screen. Neck issues, that.

But, man is the leg room an issue for me. I'm long legged and have arthritis in my knees. Keeping them bent the entire time means I can't walk, or even stand without assistance, for several minutes after the movie. Being able to change positions periodically prevents this. Because the seats are built stair stepped (can't slip my food under the seat in front of me) and the leg room is somewhere between nonexistent and minimal, the only option is sit up straight, knees bent "tea with the Queen" position.

Fortunately, the movies I saw were rarely very full, and I just picked a seat with an empty one in front of it and draped my leg over the seat. My 5'4" dds had no problem with the leg room.

I'm a movie junkie, and never get to go. I loved being able to go for "free" whenever I wanted on the cruise. We saw the new SW movies last on our Very Time cruise 3 times. :)

Just got off the Wonder and saw Moana! They also had Dr. Strange in 3D

Ah, that answers my OP. I can safely hold out for the good theater. :D

Now, I just have to worry about holding off on "Rogue One"--Did SW: Force Awakens play regular rotation, or just the Star Wars Days at sea?

In the past, each time a new Star Wars movie launches on land, it also does a PremEar at Sea. It would be a HUGE break with tradition if it were reserved to the Star Wars cruises. DCL wouldn't risk that negative publicity.

My guess--it will PremEar on all ships the same day as the land premier.

Well, PremEAR, obviously (if I was going in December)--My question was, are SW's included in the regular later shows in Jan. and Feb., like Dr. Strange and the November Marvel movies are?

Yes, after the initial showing, movies continue to be shown on board. Typically they last significantly longer than in shoreside theatres. The longer the cruise, the more movies you can expect on any given cruise....but I'd expect a Star Wars film to stick around for several months.

Yes Eric, as far as anyone not employed by DCL knows, the most recently released Star Wars movie will most likely be shown on your cruise and there is no obvious reason not to.

Do not expect anyone to guarantee anything though. This is a discussion board, not DCL, so no one is in any authority to promise anything.

If you are concerned, go to the disneycruiselineblog and review the navigators for the months after the last movie was released to get an idea of just how long they run for if popular.

http://disneycruiselineblog.com/personal-navigators/

And also do not expect them to show any other Star Wars movies, just the current one if not on a SWDAS cruise.

Some times DCL will play the previous movies on the state room TV. On our Alaska cruise this summer they has Capitan America Civil War but had Avengers Age of Ultron and Winter Soldier movies on the TV. Which was nice to watch when I had to put the kids to bed and the wife was out enjoying the ship.
