Boarding Southampton

Any run through on boarding would be appreciated.

We are scheduled to board at 14:30 hours and have no intention of getting there before 14:00.

Plus we have a dog with us (and will be heavily laden with a lot of luggage - Cunard tell us we can bring as much as we can fit in our stateroom).

What happens once we board? Is is straight to our stateroom or do we go to a bar or get some food? All the advice says get to the pool as it's empty!!! What happens to bad etc and when is the emergency muster?

Any andvice or step by step walkthrough would help us know what to pack and where (and seriously we're moving to a ranch so we'll have wellies packed...)

I can't help you with your dog :eek: sorry.

You will be given a numbered or coloured card and called to check in, in order, unless it's quiet, in which case you'll check in right away.

Your cabin will be ready and waiting, so you'll be able to drop off your carry on luggage. Your checked in luggage will arrive in due course.

You may go and eat, swim, have a drink, explore, sleep, whatever. Depending on departure time, muster is likely to be around 4.15 or soon thereafter.

We boarded the QE in Southampton. We walked from the Holiday Inn to the Pier with our luggage and arrived at about 12:30. One unique thing (to us at least) is at Southampton they had luggage conveyor belt things that wisked the luggage in behind closed doors. They had 3 or four of these and they are coordinated to the location of your cabin. You can just hand your luggage to a porter, but it was much easier just to walk our luggage over to the conveyor belt. The porter will help you lift it if necessary. Then we entered the terminal. They gave us a blue card with a letter "H" and told us to wait in the lounge. We waited no longer than 15 minutes and they called our letter to check in with one of the representatives and kiosks. Straight through security without much of a wait at all. Cabin was ready. Luggage arrived quickly within an hour. All in all probably the best embarkation we have had on any cruise.

No, but they do have Arf Bags.

I think you'll find that your dog will be an asset on embarkation day and something special will be arranged.

Don't forget to look your best ready for the photo call...

Our TA has just informed us that Cunard has asked passengers to board the Norwegian Fjords Cruise earlier in Hamburg because they are taking us on an unscheduled mini-tour of the harbour area to give us a glimpse of the city skyline and the spectacular new Elbphilharmonie building.
