What happens when NCL cancels cruise

I am on the Nov 3rd cruise out of Boston that transitions to Puerto Rico. If NCL cancel the cruise and I didn't get the insurance (kicking myself!) do you know what I will be offered? Will I get a credit for another cruise or do they refund you if they cancel? Just wondering since others must have experienced this recently.

Cruise lines hardly ever cancel a cruise, unless they can't get into or out of port. Worst case is you'll go to other than your planned destinations and/or leave port and go basically nowhere. No refunds either.

The recent cancelled cruisers got a refund of their cruise fare and an offer for 50% reduction off a new cruise. So.... in the example I saw for a theoretical $4000 cruise:

$4000 cruise was refunded and they got $2000 off a new cruise.

With a "home port" being is such a mess, you are venturing into unknown territory. I would guess, that if you were even sitting in the meeting room at NCL - the answer would be very fuzzy.

That is above and beyond! Way to go NCL!

If they cancel you will be refunded everything that you paid to NCL. They might also offer some type of credit toward another cruise.

It is doubtful that cruise will be canceled. It will most likely be rerouted.

I expect my 11/19 cruise out of San Juan to be canceled because the cruise starts and ends there. Given that the island will have power outages for months I doubt that they'll be prepared to host 4000 cruisers(in bound and outbound), many of whom will require hotels, police/security and ground transportation to the port.Unlike the Florida ports where driving in is an option I would venture to guess that all passengers for this cruise will arrive by plane.

I'm traveling on a land based casino certificate. If it is canceled I hope I have an opportunity to rebook with the same deal as I'd rather not lose my certificate.

You can be almost 100% sure that the ship will sail the week you are scheduled to be on it. The question is where will it sail from and where will it visit. NCL is not going to let the ship sit idle just because San Juan is unusable. If I had to guess they will switch it to either a Miami or Tampa based cruise and go to the western Caribbean.

If the port is closed NCL have to cancel the cruise and refund all money for the cruise.

They might offer another cruise from for example Miami but I can't see that they can just move the embarkation to another port and refuse to refund money.

Correct.

That is incorrect according to the terms of the cruise contract.

Adventure of the Seas is being repositioned to Miani for 6 weeks. Passengers were told today the port needs 4-6 weeks of repairs.

Adventure of the Seas is scheduled to sail from San Juan for a shortened 3 night cruise on 9/27. Please provide a link where departures are from Miami now.

Yeah, I could never find a source on that, including on RC's page:

https://www.royalcaribbean.com/cruise-ships/itinerary-updates

Best guess is the poster was confused about the damage at the *Carnival* terminal building (different building, from what I've read).

Do wish people would provide links with stuff like this. So much misinformation floating around.

Sorry, guys, but the cruise line will simply change the embarkation/disembarkation ports and itinerary. No refund. The contract gives them the right to do this.

It wouldn't be the first time an embarkation port was changed by a cruise line.

I was scheduled to sail on the Escape departing Miami on September 9. Due to Hurricane Irma the cruise was cancelled 5 days prior to departure. My credit card was refunded 100% of what paid. NCL also gave a 50% cruise credit towards a future cruise. Yesterday I received another email from them stating that any cruise booked prior to the end of the year would also receive a $75 onboard credit. I have had already rebooked and without knowing why, there was an onboard credit.

Do you know where in the contract I can find that information?

I found this in the brochure:

"Should travel be largely hindered, endangered, or affected due to a force majeure event" "both the guest and Norwegian may cancel the contract"

I guess that means that if NCL decide to move the embarkation to another port because of, for example, a natural disaster the guest can cancel and get a full refund.

I know that what's in the contract is more important than the fine prints in the brochure so if you know, I would appreciate if you can tell me where in the contract I can find information about it.

Read section 6c) in the contract link given by goin-away

"...deviate from the purchased voyage...for any purpose..."
