Norwegian Cruise Line Bans Food Outside of Dining Areas

As I said on a different thread, I think I can officially take a responsibility for coming up with this idea. during my last cruise on the epic I saw plates laying all over the place and spilled food, it looked really trashy. It looked like what you would picture of the ship looking like if they did a Blue Collar Comedy Cruise lOL jk. So I grabbed one of the Ncl employees and I was like it's a mess and he said I know I'm sorry I said I wish there was something they could do about this. he said I'm not the only guest who complains about that, so maybe there will be a bunch of people on the cruise will be happy about this new rule. For the record I think there should be an exemption for disabled people, but everyone else I got a question for you. Don't people say the fun of the cruise is not spending much time in your room? Its true think about it, the first time I booked a cruise I talked about a suite, and my Cruise consultant said you are not going to spend much time in your room anyway. when I was considering booking a cruise thru carnival I asked why they don't have suite perks and the guy said most of our suites are never filled, you don't spend that much time in your room anyway. so my question is it's pretty much a cruise line catchphrase you're not going to spend much time in your room anyway, so why is everybody so worried about room service or eating in your room? Did you book a cruise just spend the entire time in your room? You could have done that at home for free

Whew, the longest post you have made to date. Naturally quantity did not equal quality. Better at drive by posting rather than convincing others that your way of cruising is the only way to cruise.

Motleyfan, you have cruised all of twice, ever. Every post you make states how filthy the ship was with spills and dishes. You got really unlucky with those two cruises to witness that. It really is not the norm. Also, aren't you sailing in the Haven on your next 3 day cruise? The very room type you just said was a waste because you don't spend time in your room anyway.

I am truly happy that you are enamored with the line but don't take to heart or try and change the minds of those that have a differing opinion.

I must have been pretty convincing you did not even try to counter any of the things I said. I would like to find someone who can offer an intelligent retort, my points were valid

As I said isn't the point of a cruise to get out of your room? I don't get how you people spend so much money on a cruise and then sit in your room staring at the wall lol.

Why do you care what people do on their cruise? Don't worry about others and just worry about yourself. You are not funny at all, but you are obnoxious.

Would anyone like to hear from someone who has been on 122 cruises, and not little bitty ones either? We have some cruises which were up to 6 to 9 weeks each. Having said that, I can assure you that you will find pigs on every cruise line; Princess, RCI, Carnival, HAL, NCL, etc., including some now defunct companies. Did I forget Celebrity? Yep.........there too. Also on river cruises; also in hotels and motels. They are everywhere.

I think NCL is trying to keep the corridors clean and clear of debris, and for that they should be commended instead of being chastised. Perhaps the verbiage rubbed some the wrong way, but I doubt it is their intent to keep you from having food in your cabin. And I also doubt their intent is to force you to have room service.

Now I'm going back to packing. We will be having a wonderful time on the Getaway beginning May 23rd. I guarantee it! :D

I'm not trying to be either, but it's true a common thing you were hear when you are getting ready for a cruise as you don't spend a lot of time in your room anyway. When people say that what do you say back? we spend a whole bunch of money just to stay in our room?

If you've actually been on 122 cruises -- and I have no reason to doubt that you have -- then you surely know how much of an outlier it is to have a corridor overflowing with plates and garbage, period. Why this seems to be an isolated issue on NCL cruises, yet never in my experience on any other line, speaks to NCL needing to improve their collection strategy, not restrict guest behavior. I've only been on 32 cruises, but those are my $.02.

Enjoy your cruise on the Getaway.

And they are rejected. Being valid does not win the argument or the prize.

Again...not your concern whether people spend time in their cabins or not. What is still true, is you're obnoxious.

Just got back from Getaway. No evidence whatsoever that this "policy" exists, or for that matter, being enforced, at least in the Garden Cafe. No door dragons, just the nice girls with the spray bottles.

Now, but soon those nice girls with the spray bottles going in become the bouncers with pepper spray forcing you back into the Café when you try to leave.

Smuggling pretzel rolls will become a black market industry. ;)

Moteley- Please stop saying that i shouldn't be in my room. I pay good money for a balcony and may want to actually use it AND eat out there without paying extra for that right. What you do or have done in your limited cruise experience doesn't mean i should change to do it your way.

Pia- i respectfully disagree. The fact they started the fee and ended take out at the same time isn't a coincidence in my opinion. Its an attempt at additional revenue. While i haven't been on as many cruises as you, (only 32) i haven't observed a dish problem in the passageways. Yes you do see dishes in the hall, usually from room service. But the halls aren't overflowing with it. And if they are overflowing now, its because someone isn't doing their job or someone's job has been eliminated to save money and there isn't anyone available to pick up.

I agree with your points especially the room service one - with so many dining choices at different hours, how is one force to use that? Enjoy your vacation, it will be a wonderful time!

Wrong. There are dishes in corridors on every cruise line. I don't see Princess in your sig and there are dishes out there too. I have almost 1000 days on Princess (75 cruises) and be assured that it happens there too.

We just returned from a 19 day on the Sun.

We took food to our stateroom for a "romantic dinner on the balcony"

Also got dessert from the main dining room and took it to the room when we did not have time to finish and make the evening show.

Nobody stopped us or anyone else. Our friends were sick and we took them soup and juice many times. The room service was still free but very poor service. Taking hours to arrive and always cold/ warm -not the way it should be!

Hmmm, do you think the $7.95 fee would have corrected the problems with poor service, delivery time, and proper temperature?

I bet some posters on here will think so.

You're single and young.....you have a lot to learn. However, there is no right way or wrong way to spend one's time on a cruise.

Honeymooners may spend MOST of their time in their room, enjoying themselves and their balcony. (They can do that at home too, right?)

Others may spend MOST of their in the Casino. (They can do that at home too, right?)

Others may spend MOST of their time at the pool. (They can do that at home, too, right?

Others may spend MOST of their time at the bar. (They can do that at home, too, right?

What one does on THEIR cruise or where one goes on THEIR cruise is not for you or anyone else to judge.

You're not married, not engaged don't have small children....so you don't understand and can't understand why or how some might spend more time in their cabin then you will. You're on the prowl....LOL Others aren't.

As most of the ships started this new rule in the beginning of May and your cruise had already started prior to that I'm sure you are correct. However, I'm also sure that the new passengers getting on the Sun now will see these rules are now there.

Me, think ... some will just take a break and not wave the pom pom's, pretending that they didn't see it.

I would make sure to zero out that 18% "auto"gratuity and/or refused delivery or even call them to come & pickup the entire tray, clean & uneaten.

Then, we are taking out our displeasure with the crew members ... the problem is with senior management. Wait, that is the real problem - someone forget to inform the guests about changes.

Keep digging those fox holes.

Who stares at the walls? I love gazing, not staring at the ocean. Something I can't do at home.

The name calling and the insults on these threads seem to be increasing. It's not even entertaining now, just sad. There's not much new information, just a lot of bickering so I'm done reading for awhile.

Well maybe NCL and Princess should do a better job of collecting dishes. I don't recall seeing ANY on Oasis last week... Or anything worse than a scattered dish here or there on my most recent Celebrity cruise... Or, heck, even on my NCL cruise last fall.

I've never sailed Princess, nor do I have any intention to. With that said, please come back here and let us all know when Princess (which apparently has this appalling issue in your experience) institutes this same policy. I won't be holding my breath...

Just off the Getaway. I didn't see any food police in the buffet. My husband witnessed plates of food being taken out, however I did not....but I freely took cookies, milk and yogurt. I did not try to take food from the dining rooms but I'm guessing that's where the new "rule" is being applied.
