UBP on Sun: specific drink questions

This is the first time we will have the UBP. We will be on the Sun, but not until mid-April so I realize the answers could change by then.

1). "Select Lavazza coffee beverages" not included.

Is cappucino one of the coffee beverages not included?

2) I've read some conflicting answers about 'coffee with Baileys'. Is it included or do I have to get coffee and then ask for Baileys? If yes, do the bars have coffee? Is Irish coffee an option?

3). Are Bushwhackers readily available or only at some bars such as Great Outdoors or pool bar.

Same question for Mudslides.

4) When we were on the Jade last November I couldn't easily find a list of cocktails offered at the bars, just list of spirits. Is this true on the Sun as well? If so, how do you know if the bartender knows how to make something like a Seabreeze?

5) Through search I've read a lot of posts about drinks currently offered, especially the wines. Seems as if there's no longer an extensive list of choices by the glass.

I am not a wine connoisseur but would like an occasional glass of blush or zinfandel or with meals a chablis or chardonnay. Possible to get a decent one? (Hey, we even drink the platinum perk 'champagne', but mix it with oj for a mimosa).

Thank you for whatever answers you can provide.

Cappuccino isn't included in the UBP. Basically if a coffee is chargeable then it isn't included.

I don't specifically know about coffee with baileys. Many bars will be able to get you a free coffee, although they may need to get it from another bar which can take a while. Irish Coffee is specifically included as it's treated as a cocktail.

I get mudslides and bushwhackers from many bars. Certainly not just the pool bar or great outdoors. You can always get them from o'Sheehans for example. Some bars don't have them, but more do than don't in my experience.

Thank you for those answers. I appreciate it.

I might change my breakfast drink from coffee with Baileys to an Irish coffee.

The Sun does not have O'Sheehans -- unless they're adding it during April Extras drydock, changing Sports Bar??

Yeah, I thought that as I was typing it. :)

It was more of an example really. The Spirit also doesn't have o'Sheehans but I've always been able to get Mudslide at Henrys Pub or Shanghai bar.

Yeah, on the Star in 2013 I got a mudslide at, I think it was Red Lion Pub or something. Might be the one that became 5 o'clock Somewhere after Star's drydock.

As for the Irish Coffee, it is NOT included in the UBP. You can get coffee from the Buffet, and get a shot. It's what I do, when I want an Irish coffee. Makes no sense to me, but those are their rules

Hmmm. I've only heard about having to order a shot for coffee with Baileys. What do you order a shot of for your Irish coffee? A shot of Jameson whiskey??

Since whiskey is an integral part of Irish coffee I would expect it to be covered by UBP. I'm surprised to hear you say it isn't, especially after Keith said it was. Who's right??

If I take a thermal mug of coffee from the buffet to a bar and ask them to put a shot of Baileys in it, do you think that will work? Do you know if two shots is less than the $15 maximum?

(I think I'm addicted to coffee with Baileys :o I have some every morning at home -- I'm not driving anywhere).

On both the Breakaway, and the Sky, every time I asked for Irish Coffee, I was told that it was not included in the UBP, so I just get coffee at the buffet, and get a shot at the bar... I'll try again in a week, when I'm back aboard the Breakaway.

And usually, I get a shot of Crown Royal, suits my taste better. I hope I'm wrong, easier to just get it at the bar, and as always, your results may vary

I'll see what happens if I ask for Irish coffee but if that's the case I'd rather have Bailey's for the extra effort.

UBP will be the same on every ncl ship.

Try a rum and coke

NCL does not have Coke products, just Pepsi. So it would be a rum and Pepsi. But that has nothing to do with my questions so I'm not sure why you're saying to have a rum and coke.

Also, even though the UPB should be the same on every ship, different bartenders often make their own interpretations of the rules.

Ok, on that, we agree! First cruise on the Breakaway, we had an outstanding bartender, named Mary Grace. She would make whatever we wished. Wife and I would ask her her schedule, and visit her when she worked. Would visit her at Maltings, she would make us good luck drinks, and we would win at the Casino. So yes, bartenders do make the difference!

There is an Irish coffee listed amongst the cocktails on many of the bar menus. It is called something like "buena vista Irish coffee". I have had a few of them every cruise for the past couple of years, on a number of ships and it has always been included in the UBP.

Unless something has changed in the last couple of months it is most certainly included in the UBP.

Thank you. If bartender says Irish Coffee isn't included on UBP I'll add the magic words buena vista to the Irish Coffee order. Makes sense Irish Coffee would be on UBP since the liquor is an integral part of that drink.

We were on the Sun July 3-14th. I got Irish Coffee on the Sun with my UBP without a problem. I wasn't sure if it was included the first time I ordered - so specifically asked when ordering and was told yes. I got it at the Sports Bar. I will say, it wasn't really that good - and I'm really not picky at all. But......it was included.

I also got Mudslides and Bushwackers out at the pool multiple times without problem. I ordered myself at the bar, and also several times from the waiter walking around.

We saw cocktail menus at all restaurants, but also at times ordered other drinks. Usually we had no problem with knowing how to make anything we ordered - but we also didn't branch out too much, and often just ordered from the menu.

  • 2 weeks later...

Our experience was similar to ljrfrm's on our July 31-August 7 sailing. No problems getting Irish coffee or coffee with Baileys as part of the UBP. We typically got these at the coffee bar midship or in the Observation Lounge on Deck 12. The Lavazza drinks at the coffee bar were definitely an upcharge but in the $3 range so not crazy.

By coffee bar midship, do you mean the one in the atrium? If so, do you remember what time of morning it opened? Our cabin is very close to the atrium. Would be nice to nip out there and get my coffee with Baileys, or an Irish coffee. ;);)

Yes, that's the one. I couldn't remember what deck and didn't want to guess. I don't recall what time it opens, but I believe we got Irish coffees there before one of the excursions; unfortunately I can't remember if that was an early day or not.

Just got off the Breakaway, Irish coffee is now included in the UBP, and I was able to enjoy one no more problem. So my previous issues of being told it is not included in the UNP are no longer correct
