Dubai Local restaurants?

Hi We will be in Dubai for a couple days end of November - unfortunately not on a Friday. Dubai is full of international restaurants but we are interesting in trying 'local cuisine' - really not sure what is considered local to Dubai, maybe just Middle Eastern food. Perhaps a buffet so we can try a little bit of everything? We will be staying at Hyatt Regency if it makes any difference.

Thanks in advance.

To me local food would be south Asian. Indian, Pakistani etc. They are well over half the population. Lebanese would be another good. There are also good Iranian restaurants which is something you might not get at home. If I remember correctly your hotel is on the old side of the river so,well located to access a lot of the local cuisine. The Indian part of town is nearby for example. Try TripAdvisor or Timeout Dubai for specific recommendations.

You will be spoilt for choice for restaurants in Dubai. As Dipbrat suggested, a lot of little gems are in the old parts of Bur Dubai and Deira. If most of your time will be in the downtown area of Burj Khalifa or Dubai Mall I would suggest Ewaan at The Palace Hotel. It is an opportunity to try a variety of foods in the midst of Arabic ambiance. Licensed; Easy entry to hotel by walking over pedestrian bridge connecting Dubai Mall to Souk al Bahar.....through the souk to outside

other favorites in the area of Burj Khalifa are Reem al Bawadi or Mayrig on Mohammed bin Rashid Blvd, Karam Beirut or Wafi Gourmet in Dubai Mall. These are unlicensed for alcohol.

If you want a glass of wine or cocktail with dinner:

Al Nafoorah in Emirates Towers (Middle Eastern)

The Courtyard in Manzil (across from Burj Khalifa) (Middle Eastern)

Amal in the Armani Hotel (Indian, terrace view of fountains, $$$)

Thiptara ( Asian, part of Palace Hotel with terrace extending into the lake of Dubai Fountains, $$$)

Rang Mahal (Indian, Michelin star Atul Kochhar, JW Marriott Marquis,)

Enjoy!

You might try the Sheikh Mohammed Center for Cultural Understanding, as they have a variety of cultural meals:

We had a wonderful "local" meal one night at our Park Hyatt Dubai hotel...:)

The Cultural Center is an excellent idea! You could also do the breakfast or lunch option and combine it with a Heritage Walk of the area. The meal provides an opportunity to sit and chat with Emirati people about whatever you have questions about. It is a friendly and casual environment. A special Dubai experience you will remember long after. It will be easy to get a taxi or even walk to Metro when you are finished.

Try the outdoor restaurants along the creek at Heritage Village/Dive Center. Since it is November -- evenings will be moderate. Outdoor dining and good Arabic food. No alcohol though -- trip the lemon/peppermint drink.

Thanks for another great dining options in Dubai. We don't drink so that's not a problem.
