Thanks Keith for the news on the Silversea Muse.

Have told our Travel Agent to book us on the SS Muse maiden when available (am guessing this October when 2017 SS itineraries are released). We had one of our top two cruises ever on the Silver Spirit Maiden crossing back in 2010--terrific group ( of SS CCr's (wellseasoned, dougburns, dusababy, cashipman) sailed on this maiden(over 40) many of which we are very close friends (have sailed on multiple SS cruises with many of them since) with today.

Will start a roll call when Cruise Critic adds the Silversea Muse to the Silversea roll call threads (have asked Laura (CC Community Mgr to add the Muse to SS roll calls).

Just heard back from our TA--bookings for the SS Muse will be available this October when the 2017 itineraries are released by SS.

Still remember us from the previous years .. meow! ?

PERHAPS we will be able to make some new measurements in 2017.

By the way, we have just finished our round Japan voyage aboard the Diamond Princess, a mass market ship, but it is the only Japan voyage without a stop in mainland China so no visa requirement. Please take a look at our report, if you so wish!

That is not quite correct. We did a Japan cruise from Sapporo to Guam on the Silver Explorer, and the Silver Discoverer also just does Japanese cruises. Tauck also do cruises just in Japan, and we are doing a Cherry Blossom cruise next year through APT. None of these go to China.

Well, we did not research the "expedition ships" .. meow!

We have just booked a Viking River cruise, Budapest to Amsterdam for October 2016, and perhaps we can find the means to try the Silver Muse late 2017. Would it be sailing perhaps Montreal to New York for the Autumn?

Of course, due diligence has been completed and you are satisfied river levels will not have you doing a bus tour. Good luck with Viking....not my idea of a value proposition. I mean this sincerely.

Thinking of doing Amsterdam/Budapest river cruise on Scenic (told it is nearest to SS luxury for river cruising) or Viking.Whats wrong with Viking ?

I'm not sure of this, but when we did the crossing to Montreal and back to Boston on the Whisper last year, we were told that the Whisper was about the tallest ship which could sail west of Quebec City all the way to Montreal because of lower bridges along the way. So the Muse may be too large.

Welcome back, Meow.

brimary, come over to the River Cruising boards and do some reading; though many people have a perfectly fine time cruising with Viking, you will definitely find plenty of potential answers to your question... You should consider Uniworld, in addition to the other suggestions offered up here. As ones who like SS, we found Uniworld very similar, and very much to our liking. I posted a few detailed reviews, and we're back on Uniworld for a Danube cruise in April 2016.

Anyway, to the topic of this thread - Chris was excited to hear the news of a new build, even though we usually prefer small ships. Guess we'll see where the MV is going. We'll definitely be looking for something to do around this time. Our current plans have us in Madagascar and possibly South Africa in Sept 2016 but nothing planned after that! We shall see!

JP & Chris,Thanks for the very helpful info and reviews.Sorry to sidetrack from the thread re the exciting new build for SS.Looking forward to seeing details of the Muse despite our preference being for the smaller Wind & Cloud.Would not be enthusiastic if the Muse had no MDR and only reservation restaurants. The principle of dining with whom you wish at what time suits us rather than having to reserve a variety of restaurants months in advance.will always be a prime consideration in choice of vessel.

Meow! Where have you been hiding? Get your tape measure handy.

After Caribbean on Spirit in 2010, we went to Iceland on Azamara in 2011. Then we went to Japan on Diamond Princess last month. In the meantime, we have been saving resources. We are booked on Viking October 2016, and hope to get on Muse late 2017.

Thank you for remembering us .. meow!

Viking is a bit cheaper than the others. Still a 14 days from Budapest to Amsterdam on a basic balconied cabin costs $5700 per person without included airfare. The cabins are 200+ sq.ft. with a small real balcony. All shore excursions are included though we may not take all of them. We think we may as well try river cruising once!

Thank you for remembering us. We will look at the itineraries offered when they become available. The hope is for a ten days voyage or so (to have time to measure and scope out the ship), and hopefully not too expensive.

I know that Crystal Symphony which is definitely larger and taller than Whisper sails to Montreal. It has 12 decks including crew decks. Crystal Serenity which is one deck higher cannot fit under the bridge so the cruises in Canada end in Quebec City when it sails.
