Nonrefundable OBC Strategies??

We have "nonrefundable OBC" courtesey of Royal Caribbean on our upcoming cruise and would like to take this as Cash, since we already have our expenditures paid.

Can anyone help with the latest strategies for obtaining this "nonrefundable OBC" ?

I understand we can cash this out at the casino for a 5% fee. However, I just did a search and some are recommending setting up a "Cash Account" and then attempting to obtain their obc as a voucher.

Any help and direction will be greatly appreciated.

If you opt for a cash account, you can go to the Casino and get a cash advance against your onboard account with no fees. After you do this, you can go to Guest Services and change to a credit card account.

I know you already know about the casino trick, and since I can't speak to the "cash account" thing that Bob explained, I'm going to suggest the casino trick. I did it last week on the Independence and it was really easy. We looked at our statement on the last night to see how much OBC we had used, how much we had left, and went to the casino to ask for that amount. My fiance just had to sign a receipt indicating that he withdrew the money, and that was it.

If you take the money out at the casino and do not have a cash account you will be charged a 5% fee.

Bob, in particular, we should set up our expense account as 'Cash" at check-in? Then should we wait until that evening or the next day to withdraw our Obc and switch it over to the usual seapass account guaranteed by our credit card?

You can set up your account as cash anytime before you go to the casino to withdraw cash. I'd set it up during online check-in.

Back in the days when club med was new they would offer deals where you got the total cost back in casino chips. Some smart people would go to the casino and let's say they had $5000, put $2500 on red $2500 on black.

Get the drift.

If they were real cautious the might put a bit on 0 too.

We have done cash accounts several times.

Some ships casinos will give you cash while on some ships you will have your choice of non casbah,e casino chips or a voucher for the slots. Take the slots voucher. Insert in into a machine and then hit cash out. It will give you a pay voucher that you can then take back to the cashier and get cash.

So many excellent suggestions.

I only wish I could out how to obtain a 5% return from the banks!

Non-refundable OBC is bonus...think of it that way..use it up! You didn't pay for it.. it's a BONUS! That's all. USE IT!

it is called OBC because it is to be used on board. Princess has announced that non refundable OBC can not be used in the casino. It is only a matter of time before RCL copies them. On our last Celebrity cruise, we were forced to visit the boutique or loose the credits. Good luck.

On previous cruises I have drawn out $100 or $200 at the casino, and didn't mind paying the 5% charge. It was worth it to me to not have to go to guest services twice to set up cash account then back to credit card. I also don't gamble, and don't like the smoke and all the lights and noise. Won't be a problem on my next cruise, as I have only $100 OBC, and gratuities will take care of that.

No fees? We had OBC and SO tried to cash out at Casino and was going to be charged 5%. I am Casino VIP and took it and cashed it out for cash and no fees. I thought they always charged a fee unless Casino VIP.

I have no status with Casino Royale and while I was on Grandeur in January, the casino allowed me to obtain slot machine vouchers from my cash account for no fee every single day (a credit card backed onboard account would have incurred a 5% fee).

At first they were going to charge me the 5% fee as they began mentioning it (thinking that like most people, I'd have a credit card on the account), but then realized I had a cash account and they said, "never mind".

They were not permitting U.S. cash currency withdrawals during my sailing. I then used the slot machines to obtain cashout vouchers.

Problem with the above strategy is the Roulette wheels on RCI and most other cruise ships also have 00 position along with the 0 so there is double the chance of not having a black or red. :rolleyes:

Are you saying you had a cash account and they still wanted to charge you 5%? I've read that sometimes they need to be reminded about the cahs account exclusion.
