QM2 Grand Lobby to have blue carpet?

Hi!

Just saw a video tweeted by Carnival Corp and posted on Cunard's YouTube site. It talks about recarpeting the QM2 during the refit. At the .59 minute mark it shows a picture of new blue carpeting it what appears to be the QM2's Grand Lobby. It is shown on the computer screen in the video(this will make sense when you watch the video). It looks like the Grand Lobby but the picture is small so hard to tell. I could be mis-interrupting but thought I would share. Would love to hear what other people see! I could be right (or wrong)!

I just went to see if I could find anything new about the refit of QM2 , because in the latest E- Mail from Cunard it is mentioned, that the Grand Lobby get´s a new look also! Curiosity got the better of me so I tried to find out. So I tried the cruise critic forum- eureka- thanks for the info about the youtube canal.

For those who might be looking for the video in question, here is a link to it.

And here is a capture of one of the video frames the OP is asking about where a computer screen shows a carpet design.

I'm not sure what to make of this. The image on the left side of the screen is certainly evocative of the Grand Lobby, but many of the details in the background don't seem to add up to me. Perhaps that image is just meant to give a general impression of the Grand Lobby.

Regards,

John.

Thanks for the screen capture and the enlargement. You are absolutely correct. The detail in the background does not look like the grand lobby yet it does look like the grand lobby. I believe you are also correct in that they are trying to create an impression of it though.

Thanks for posting that pic!

I must admit all the speculation is fun! As the old saying goes: time will tell!

I also ran the

at full screen. The image on the left at 0:59 appears to be a grand foyer from the original Queen Mary, so it does indeed appear that the new Grand Lobby carpet will be blue.

The video mentions "Ulster Carpet" which has offices in Northern Ireland and the US. A search of their web site and social media pages didn't reveal the Cunard commission, but it may have been confidential until this point. In any case the CGI renderings show the Grand Lobby will be opened up lot with the 2/3/7 lobby elevators removed.

"The Carnival UK standard suppliers are Hammer Taepper, Ulster and Brintons carpet. Most of the ships have a mixture of these manufacturers depending on location.

Brintons and Ulster are available through high street retailers however, all our designs are bespoke for Carnival UK so exact designs we have on board will not be available in stores."

Frankly, I'm more concerned about the 'pot holes' in the Grand Lobby that keep reappearing. Hopefully that problem will finally be resolved during the refit rather than just a surface repair such as another new lovely carpet, blue or otherwise :) -S.

I was only wondering the same thing last week. It is certainly a rather quick way of transforming the look of the lobby and grand corridors. While I did think about Blue as seen in the lobby of the Original Queen Mary, I wonder if they will go lighter, something in line with the atrium carpets on QE.

This will increase the sense of space and scale and look very fresh. The fact that the glass lifts are going (mainly to do with the Kings Court renovations I know) and mirrors are being added, suggests they want to create a new feel. The Royal Blue signature colour seems to feature far more prominently than the Red in all the Stateroom designs. As someone said hopefully whatever happens it will be the end of the pot holes for good and undoubtedly the main corridor and lobby carpets will be replaced.

At the moment the geometric pattern bothers me somehow, but I hope that, when looking at it after it has all been completed, this may change.

However, I always thought the red carpet would be a reminiscence to the red funnel ...

Someone I know.. in the know :D tells me that 'Blue' ( Royal Blue) is far more regal than red.

Apparently, Blue carpeting is the colour often seen in Buckingham Palace.

Now that should please our American Cousins ;)

Don't exactly know why we like the Queen more than you blokes. Remember without the Royal family, it is just rain and bogs.

I always thought cousins are our first friends. A Carpet cannot come between friends??

I like the blue. Makes a great change from the red.

Thanks, John, for capturing that brief view of the new blue carpet.

We all know that the Grand Lobby is slated for remodeling; my thought is that we might be getting a glimpse into the future. Perhaps it's a quick peek at an artist's rendering that shows how the Grand Lobby will actually appear after the layup. I can certainly see in that fleeting view how it could be the Grand Lobby after a major face lift. Whether Cunard intended to show its cards, or not, for however briefly of the new look is more intriguing to me.

I'd imagine a carpet with such a linear design would most likely run the wide corridors replacing this, rather than being the design of the lobby carpets itself which I imagine will go for a circular design like the old QM one or this more contemporary version pictured in the video ImageUploadedByForums1463690645.978663.jpg.6dc70fa0eadc9c88edc8330996d78e78.jpg

The casino will be reduced in size to accommodate more passenger cabins. How much space the newly designed casino encroaches on the lobby (formerly known as the Grand Lobby) is not shown on any "renderings" that I can find - anyone had more success? -S.

Finally something that actually looks Art Deco..I'm glad its not blue..the whole ship is turning this pale grey blue look ..replacing the warm colors from the original design..and was very nice contrast to the many cold overcast days on a TA....I was on the Jan 3 crossing and the casino staff spoke of how small it will become and it was a mistake. The single cabins should have been on a deck that was rebuilt for more singles and larger family type rooms that many lines have added
