Venetian perks... Lunch when docked..... ???

I've used the perk a few times now to have lunch onboard the Wind and Cloud when they've come into Tower Bridge.... Nice and convenient for me to get to and home from. And not just a great perk to enjoy, but its actually great value too IMHO. Its just like an Afternoon cruise day..... without moving anywhere?

Do others take advantage of having Lunch or Dinner onboard when the ships are docked locally?

I've now been looking to go further afield, with Silver Spirit coming into Southampton (a 3 hour train journey, but worth it to visit a new ship.)

And I'm now sorely tempted to have a micro break with 2 nights in Venice or Barcelona when the Silver Muse is in Town. OK, it makes lunch a bit more expensive - but at the same time, its probably the only way I'll get onboard the Muse.... and she looks too awesome not to have a brief encounter!!!

Does anyone else take advantage of the facilities given to Venetian members - or am I the only Silversea ship stalker?

When in Málaga during the Spirit's recent transatlantic, we had friends come and visit with us in the ship. We had to submit copies of their passports with at least 45 days in advance, and receive approval for the visit. The approval included either lunch or dinner (at a fee, of course). Can you request a visit without all the approval process if you are a VS member?

If you are a Venetian Society holder, you are allowed to book a request but you still have to fill out the forms and give passport details. You don't need to be visiting someone who is travelling on the ship.

I've been on the Cloud and Wind twice for lunch in London. The second time bringing with us 2 non VS members.

Hope that helps.

We have never taken advantage of that...but it would be fun to visit when the ship is docked nearby. Do we make the request through our TA, or the Venetian Society?

[My former office was at No. 1 London Bridge, and I agree, it is a fabulous view and it must just be fantastic to see the Cloud sail in! And what a great lunch getaway!]

Each time I've gone through the SS agent, but it's guest relations who does it. I can't work out which is the correct email looking back. Either resuk@silversea.com or guestrelationsuk@silversea.com

You have to fill out the form then wait!

That's the part I'd be nervous about if I chased a ship over to Europe. I'd want to book the flights now .... not wait until 2 weeks before the lunch. By that time the prices of the flights would have increased dramatically.

I suppose it depends on how much you want to spend to go for a free lunch.:)

In May we visited the Explorer when she came into Greenock, about an hours drive. We did this by contacting the London office and they arranged the whole thing.

Hi Les, I can see you enjoy those lunches ......:)

For what it's worth, some years ago wifey noticed that Whisper was visitng several European ports where we had clients that were overdue for meetings and some tender love and care. We asked SS whether we could invite several people on board for the whole day in each port and they agreed.

We booked 801 as our suite and 802 as an office with a sort of board table and chairs and each day we welcomed between two and six of our clients on board each morning. They set up 801 as a champagne seafood buffet with lobster, oysters etc and some nice wine tasting and after lunch our guests who had been told in advance that they could enjoyed the pool and snacks etc. We never received a charge even though we expected it and for it to be pretty beefy and it was an extremely constructive way to spend ten days. One of our clients based in Barcelona then joined us for a couple of subsequent cruises.

I don't know whether they make a charge now.

We were invited on board in June as a guest in the same way they invite travel agents. Lunch is included along with a few drinks, but you are escorted the whole time. We decided against that and went with the standard $60 for a daytime visit which gave you the free run of the ship, lunch in the MDR and drinks inc at the pool bar. I'd say you could look at it as spending a day on board as you would on sea day. Ok, so you don't go anywhere, but it's a pretty enjoyable way to spend 4 or 5 hours without the cruise travel costs! lol

I guess if you are the onboard to visit, they may give that consession free, especially if you've hired an extra suite. No idea if they'd do that for a Vista guest?

Unfortunately we don't know anyone on board so it's a mute point. It's still good value at $60 but I'd agree free is better. Thinking about it, I've friends on the June muse sailing from Barcelona coincidently in 802. Hmmm I can see two lunches feasible for that one! To be fair, that was one of the reasons I was looking at the Barcelona. I'd no idea that could be free. The guests in questionable in certainly didn't think that ANYONE but guests sailing were allowed. (They were shocked I had done this at Tower Bridge) So who knows. I'm still hoping for an invite for the pull out for a night or two! :p

  • 2 months later...
If two Silversea ships are in port at the same time, you are welcome to have lunch and wander around on the other ship at no additional cost (Just show the boarding pass from your ship, and on you go ...)

That's how we decided the Spirit is way too big for our tastes.

Unfortunately at the beginning of June when the Cloud and Wind are in London, the miss each other and will cross paths (probably at about Greenwich)...... what a site that would have been!

On a side note, Regent Navigator is in port at the same time as us on our next trip. I'm going to ask at next weeks cruise show (as a potential customer) if there is any chance of an onboard visit on the day. Would be nice to have a look and do a flagship comparison with the Muse to see which is nicer.
