Connecting cabins - noise from next door?

We had a stateroom booked and have now been informed by our TA that we have been moved. It is classed as an upgrade as we are further midships but it is a connecting room. We specifically do not want this as we have heard reports from other lines that you can hear your neighbours!! We have also suffered in hotels with this.

We have emailed our TA but they are renowned here in the UK for poor after sales service! We don't usually use them but they had a great deal on this cruise - too good to miss! We have not heard back from them yet, but will push it.

So, should we insist (if we can) that we are put back in our original room, or will we be OK if this turns out to be impossible?

Thanks!

I avoid connecting rooms for the reason you stated. If it were me and you were happy with the original cabin position I'd be asking to be put back there. What is the upgrade? Is it a V2 from a V3, V1 to V2? Original cabin number and new one?

We were in 4004, just an oceanview and under the theatre (we decided that wouldn't be a problem for us) and the new one is 4018, connecting and also under the casino. Really don't want it!

Is there a way to contact Azamara direct about this? We have a booking number.

If you are booked through an agent, Azamara will not deal with you direct. So I would put the pressure on the agent, call them rather than email if you can

Thank you. I have tried earlier and will keep trying!

Journey 27th January 2016? This is the first cruise after the ship has been updated and I wonder if it's because your cabin won't be ready? It's a way off. I looked at available alternatives in your category and there aren't any except another connecting cabin . Speak to your ta first and see what they can do and if no joy from them (they will probably speak to the Azamara call centre in Guatemala) do an email to UK MD Richard Twynam who is excellent at responding. Express your concerns about being moved to a connecting cabin. See if at least he can put you on a list to move you to a non-connecting if and when available. His email is rtwynam@azamaraclubcruises. Good luck!

Phil - thank you so much for this info. There were very limited cabins available when we booked this - hence the low price! Our first time on Azamara. We usually sail Seabourn but they are not in the Caribbean in early 2016. Some friends did an Azamara earlier this year and enjoyed it so we went ahead to try something different. Hope we can get sorted!

Did you book that specific cabin? If so you might use the argument that you have a contract for that cabin and if it is not supplied they would be in breach of contract ... Worth a try. Hope you have a fab cruise either way. [emoji3][emoji485]

We did choose 4004 from the short list of available rooms. No verandahs left, just ocean view or inside. Will look at the legal aspect if we need to. Thank you.

Honestly I think that is a bad approach to take first off. My way would be to try the TA, then email Mr Twynam if no joy and see what he can come up with. You catch more bees with honey than vinegar.

We are trying TA first, then Mr Twynam if we don't succeed. Thanks!

I have had a connecting cabin in the past and also have never heard any noise from next door. However a connecting cabin does mean that you don't have a sofa in your cabin. Obviously a sofa would block access through the connecting door, so it is a single chair only.

I do also agree that you take "softly, softly" approach on first place. On the plus side you will spend so little time in your cabin and will have enjoyed the included drinks so hopefully not a problem anyway. Good luck!!

We had a connecting cabin (on deck 7) this summer. We had no issues at all with noise from our neighbours. Cannot comment on the casino vs cabaret issue though.

If it's a comfort to Margaret and knowing the ships I think I'd rather be under the casino than Cabaret Lounge. I've had a cabin over the lounge and you will hear rehearsals when they are going on as well of course the evening shows if you are in the cabin at the time. It didn't really bother me as it was a sound I expected, but might be an issue to others.

I'm sure we had a sofa in our connecting cabin this year - it did block the connecting door but presumably that was because Az knew that we had no need to use the door...

Surprised at that as I'm fairly sure the connecting cabins always have just a chair. I don't think the cabin crew would want to be moving sofa's in and out of the cabin depending on whether people need the connecting door open or not!

I think I have had three connecting cabins in the past and from memory, they all had just the chair. Maybe you were just lucky Ebeth or maybe I was just unlucky!

We have finally had a response from our TA which reads thus (all grammatical errors theirs!!)

Dear.......

Thank you for your email,

I have spoken with the Azamara and they have confirmed the reason for your cabin change is because of a complementary upgrade you are now in a higher grade of cabin,

I have checked and unfortunately the cabin you previously has 4004 is no longer available both grades are fully sold out so the cabin can not be changed,

If you wish to upgrade your cabin we can look at the costs of this?

Please do not hesitate to contact us

Kind Regards

So, Azamara considers this is an upgrade because we are further along a corridor and we cannot go back to our original, chosen by us, cabin. Any suggestions, please? We do not want to have to pay to upgrade further.

Whether on Oceania or Azamara, you can always encounter problems with connecting cabins. . Our "neighbors" television was on late into the night and we could hear every word. When the TV was off, we could hear them.

We will NEVER book a connecting cabin on any ship unless we're traveling with our young grandchildren.

Thanks everyone. Could anyone comment on the email received from our TA?

By "comment" do you mean "weigh in on the embarrassing grammatical errors" of such email?

As your Chief Blogging Officer, I can apologize and promise to call our Customer Service's attention, once again. I say again because not so long ago we (the Azamara CC community) discussed another such email that somehow slipped by any spell check or management's eyes.
