Star Princess....Do you like her? Why?

I cruised the Diamond/Golden/Sapphire but never the Star. Will I like her and what will I like or dislike about her.

Which is her sister ship? Is it the Golden? If so, I'll be happy.

I believe the Golden is the sister ship of the Star. We sailed her across the Pacific for 30 days and the Atlantic for 18 days and loved everything about the Star. The number of passengers never made the ship feel crowded. The aft pool area is much bigger with many more loungers and tables. This was our favorite pool to use in good weather. The covered pool and conservatory was a great place to lounge on a cloudy or cool day. The International Cafe is our favorite place to people watch and enjoy a coffee drink. We had great staff and entertainment onboard our two trips on her. Never remember a bad meal either.:D

We sailed 16 days LA to Valparaiso on her about 2 years ago and loved it. The nice thing is the atrium had been reconfigured to include the International Cafe, and Vines. The Shore Excursions desk, Captain's Circle, and Future Cruise office have been moved to Deck 7 portside, which made them a little confusing to find at times (compared with other Grand class ships).

We found little to complain about concerning the ship (a broken 1" bathroom tile being the biggest I noted). Our only other complaint was with the crew manning the Shore Excursion desk, and I imagine they have all moved on since we cruised.

The music was outstanding, including a group called Brasil Brazil, who I hope Princess has retained for South America cruises.

I love the Golden so.....what could be bad about the Star?

We sailed on the Star for ten days last month and will be going back for 15 days next month. The first princess ship we sailed on was the Golden. Golden and Star are sisters, so I think you will like her and you will be happy. I know we are. We have also sailed Sapphire and Diamond. Sapphire with the new upgrades is my favorite, followed by Coral and Island.

The Sapphire is also my favorite.....I simply can not get enough of her. And, her crew......the best!!!!!!!!

I sailed on the star before the fire and my only complaint was that it is the only ship I have sailed on that I found it hard to navigate. I continually got lost!! For some reason the Star seems like a maze to me with dead ends but it could be just me!

Will Brenda be sailing?

My beautiful Brenda is now 13 years old and she's retired. Her face is all grey, even her eye brows [who knew dogs had eyebrows?]

She stays at home with my DH who won't leave her and I've been cruising with friends and family and my wonderful Successor Dog, "Horton!" He's twice as big as Brenda and is one, big, wonderful Service Dog for me.

Thank you so much for asking about my darling Brenda. She had finished her 15th cruise before we retired her to a life of naps/pats and cuddles.

My parents puppy trained guide dogs, and then took in retired guide dogs (until they crossed that Rainbow Bridge).

I have a deep love for service dogs. They are a big part of many happy memories!:)

I think that's exactly what happened to us onboard the Golden. Until we finally figuered her out [and, that took pretty much half a day], we would feel like we had hit more dead-ends than we did places to go to.

I will give myself lots of time to walk around and just get familiar with her. I could do the Sapphire in my sleep. It's so nice when you know your ship, it seems to save all that wasted "getting lost" time! :(

I kind of think as Star as a bridge between the original trio and Diamond/Sapphire. Star has the thermal suite like the latter two ships which neither Grand or Golden do. I don't particularly like the fact that the casino is on Deck 7 on Star Princess but otherwise she's definitely in my top three...and if you've figured your way around Sapphire Princess, you'll have no problem with Star.

Tracie, we love folks like your parents. To be willing to take a retired Service Dog into death is an amazing thing and takes some pretty spectacular people to do it. My DH and I will keep Brenda [as she's a part of our lives as our own children.] Horton really loves her and although she's very kind to him.....I think she gives him a lot of latitude because she knows I expect nothing less than good behavior! He is a puppy and can be so annoying!!!!!

I don't know your parent's but please tell them I love them,- we who walk or wheel with a Service Dog can NEVER thank the PuppyRaisers and the volunteer families, who take the senior dog when it retires, enough.

We sail for Alaska on May 18 and have never been on the Star. Any chatter, secrets or tips that anyone would like to share? We've been on the Island and Coral to Alaska previously; so a bit smaller ships.

We are in a mini-suite E729 if anyone has anything specific to that cabin.

Are there lounge chairs on deck 7? We enjoy spending time there and were surprised that the NCL ship we were on had no chairs on the promenade deck. All the RCCL ships we had been on had them and we just assumed they all did.
