Aft cabin question

Recommended Posts

It seems that aft balcony staterooms are some of the first cabins that get booked in the RCI fleet. It's almost as if it is a cult following for these staterooms. What is so special about these cabins, other than a deeper balcony? It seems people love them. Just asking.

Thanks, John

I've had one aft balcony on the Explorer and I really enjoyed it. I had 2 loungers, 2 chairs and a table. It was amazing watching the wake as the sun set. I hope I'll be lucky enough to get one again in the future.

We had our first aft on the Jewel. The balcony is large but it was Hot Hot Hot! We were in the center 7180. Never again. No air flow at all.

Also the room and the bed vibrated all night from the engines.

We tried it and now going back to our regular balcony.

Well John, let's see, what can I tell you.... oh yes, the rear facing aft cabins are absolutely terrible! Just awful!

You don't ever want to book any of them, yesiree, just awful, just terrible.

Nosiree, don't ever book a rear facing aft, never, never, never.

We'll have our first aft balcony on RC later this year, but have had them on another line twice. The soothing sounds of the wake and the unobstructed views, especially in and out of ports, are wonderful. We usually do sail away from our own uncrowded balcony. [emoji3]

People love them People hate them.

I don´t care how large my balcony is. I sit out there and and look out to sea. To me it doesn´t matter how much empty space there is around me when sitting out there.;)

On the other Hand I want my cabin centrally located midship near the Elevators. Yep call me lazy, but I don´t want Long walks all the way aft to get to my cabin. I don´t kid myself about that helping with burning calories either;)

The there´s more movement and Vibration aft and there can be soot Problems as well.

I will leave the afts to those who love them.:)

Actually it's really just the balcony size and the view, if you are on Alaska or Norway, the ability to sit on your balcony and see both sides of ship, and the last of the views, it's spectacular! But, it can be hotter with little airflow. You can get some stack gas smell or soot if the winds are right. You'll get some vibration and you are at the end of the "pendulum" as the ship moves. Oh yeah.... you can't get much farther from everything.

So... We had an aft balcony in Alaska, the Greek Isles, and have one on our upcoming Baltic cruise. Why? THE SPECTACULAR VIEWS!!!

We are with a group of 8-10. We can all gather on one balcony with lots of room to spare (depending on ship of course). So... We never felt the "heat," we were in Alaska. The vibration and motion was no big deal to us. Never had any soot or stack gas. It was more than worth it on a "view intensive" cruise.

We don't always book an aft stateroom and more frequently than not also usually locate closer to the elevator banks. In fact on RCI ships the hump (or near to) is also a favored location for us.

When we've had aft staterooms, however, neither soot nor vibration was an issue and any increase in motion doesn't affect us. (The greatest increase in motion was with our full forward front facing staterooms, in which on one cruise we encountered 25+ foot waves. But of course the whole ship felt that as well!)

We love the

  • loungers

  • views (almost 270° in 7408,7708 Fredom class & 7388,7688 Voyager class)

  • quiet... very little foot traffic to the very aft

The last point as well. Love that I can't hear a lot of noise in the hallway.

The walk down the hallway is not bad - only if you use the forward elevators :)

We had an aft on the Serenade and loved it. We will have an aft on the upcoming Liberty and an aft JS on Adventure next March. Like others have commented, we love the extra space and the additional lounge chairs. We don't mind the extra walking as it helps burn calories from the extra food we eat. It really isn't that much of an additional walk. It is not for everyone so pick a cabin you like and enjoy the cruise.

We like the big balcony and we love the rear facing view. I'm not sure what it is but there is just something so serene in watching the wake off the back of the ship. Another thing we like, yet most people dislike, is the long walk to and from your cabin. On Radiance class ships it's a little over 300' (100 yards) from the centrum to the cabins at the back of the ship. If you're mobility challenged, that's a long walk. We are still fairly young (late 50s) so we like the exercise. Another advantage is there is no foot traffic going by your cabin all the time. Since those cabins are at the end of the corridor, there are only a few people that need to walk past your cabin to get to theirs.

I pondered one for my upcoming cruise, but ultimately I adore the motion in the forward section of the ship and am not a fan of vibrations so... I am going the exact opposite - a forward-facing ocean view room at the very front (as in I will be able to see the helipad from my window!)!! Cannot wait!!!

I am a happy member of the corner aft "cult". To me, the location provides the best of two worlds. 1) My own private cruise ship where I can relax on my lounger, enjoy the wake, the sunrises/sunsets, the ports fading into the distance. 2) Upon leaving my corner cocoon, a regular cruise ship full of pools, shows, casinos, food I didn't cook and fun ports of call.

We are in the middle of the back of the ship. But up in the 10th floor. Is the vibration as bad there? We have never cruised before and where able to get r rooms across the back.

People talk about the vibration in the aft cabins all the time. I have stayed in aft cabins and have looked/felt for vibrations. Is there a vibration?, yes. Is it any worse that other places on the ship?, I don't think so. If you look/feel for it, you will probably notice it but it's not like it shakes you out of the bed or anything. Think about this, the dining room is at the back on a lower deck, the Windjammer is in the back (on most ships) on an upper deck. Do you ever sit at your table and say "Oh my God, the vibrations are terrible" ?

I can't say I have since I've never been on a cruise before. The vibration if any will probably be good to put my 1year old asleep lol I don't think I'll mind it. I'm more concerned knowing the windjammer is right above us. I'm sure there will be noice from that?

I know I'm in the minority but I had an aft cabin once and didn't like it all. Didn't like the constant churning of the water and the noise from it and felt it was hard to relax because of it. I really like the quiet and calm of a regular cabin on the side of the ship. Plus, like someone has pointed out, it was really hot sitting outside sometimes.
