Has anyone visited Conegliano?

We are thinking about doing a day trip from Venice and are exploring possibilities.

Is it worth the trip? and if you remember were most sites open on a Saturday?

any recommendations for lunch too?

Thanks in advance!

Interesting choice for a port day and not one we have not previously seen mentioned here on CC. You can certainly get there in about an hour via rental car or train. While we have never truly played tourist in this city, we once drove through the region on an extended driving trip (we do quite a few driving trips in Italy and Europe). We think of the Conegliano area as being one of several major wine areas in Italy and our interest would be visiting vineyards and tasting. They do produce some excellent prosecco's in this part of Italy. As to sites, I recall seeing the Castle on the hill but it did not impress us enough (from a distance) to cause us to drive to the site. So perhaps you could take the trip and report back here so others (including moi) can determine whether its worth a future trip.

We would add that DW and enjoy Venice (and some of the other islands in the Lagoon) so much that it would be hard for us to leave Venice on a cruise visit. But on our longer land trips it does make a lot of sense.
