Oh Rotterdam,

 

Confused about Seabourn and McDonalds?

 

Apparently Seabourn chooses not to open the MDR for lunches during 7 day cruises because the 10-20 people who might go there then have alternatives such as the Colonnade and Patio and, when in port, onshore. Makes sense to me as I have lunched there maybe 4-5 times after 400+ days on Seabourn and then when I was ill and/or when others arranged something. Always on long cruises, by the way.

 

About McDonalds, you have choices, too. You can eat in the bistro or in your car, your choice. But it's the same menu, as I am sure you know, and they charge the same prices, less VAT in some markets for takeaway orders. And whether you pay the full menu price or present discount coupns when ordering, the food tastes the same. Might as well save money and VAT when you next visit there.

give discounts on these cruises when services are cut(ie the dining room closed for lunch)???? Funny that it seems there is the 2 definitions of luxury....Luxury & Seabourn Luxury!

 

Seabourn like McDonalds is cutting menu choices & perhaps Seabourn will install drive thru windows for dining.....

Update on lunch in Restaurant 2, still listed as closed for lunch in the daily Herald. There were 11 of us in the restaurant plus a group of 15. What a perfect solution to keep everyone happy without dispersing much staff. It is curious how the same salmon filet is more enjoyable without being surrounded by the constant mouvement from people getting up and down from repeat trips to the Buffet.

 

If this is a test trial for lunch, I hope it continues. Everyone appeared to be satisfied.

 

There is a very good team of assistant maître d'hotels on board the Quest. One of whom managed the lunch. I wish I could say the same for the actual maitre d'hotel, but I am not quite sure who that is.

Pleased to hear that the solution of opening Restaurant 2 is satisfactory for you - personally I do not much care for the decor in the evening, let alone the daytime, but if an entirely waiter served lunch is what you and others want, then this is probably the best solution all round.

 

Contrary to what Rotterdam thinks, I do find that Seabourn tries to be helpful when possible!

I'm glad to read of this partial solution which at least offers quiet.

 

The top maitre d' should be listed as the Restaurant Manager on your cruise info...perhaps even on the nightly menu. I hope that SB is not doing away with this post and replacing it with hostesses as there do not seem to be many positive impressions re: them.

 

Is Antonio one of your asst Maitre 'd? I think he's tops.

 

How is the entertainment...both in the Club and the shows? Paula

The Maitre D' is and always will be in charge but I must say that the Hostess that now escorts guests to their tables is working very well for most guests but there will be those that want a different table to the one that is offered and I am afraid that we cannot all have the best table in the restaurant.

 

A lot of guests like to have a table by a window,myself and my wife do not as my wife feels cold when seated next to a window.

 

What one likes often the other does not.

Life is good!

 

I don't mind my particular table but sometimes I want to sit in the area serviced by a particular wait team whom I have enjoyed/appreciated.

 

Glad to learn that the Restaurant Manager remains in place. Paula

I didn't come across Antonio on this cruise.

 

The entertainment was typical big sister Seabourn. As I mentioned in my first post on this thread, the CD was welcoming guests at embarkation and gave us a good first impression. From that point we judged the glass as half full rather than half empty.

 

This was a quickie cruise for us, one that we slide in almost as a long weekend in between our real winter and summer cruise vacations. We therefore were only on board for 5 of the 7 days and unfortunately missed the epicurean event and the rock the boat.

 

And yes, life is good.

On our recent Odyssey cruise I was very surprised to note that the Restaurant Manager's name was not included on the front page of the passenger list. Either an oversight or a sign of the times!

 

Have to agree about Antonio, he was running the Colonnade and was absolutely wonderful. Hopefully he will soon get a well deserved promotion.
