Nynäshamn.

In Nynäshamn passengers will disembark via a floating pier like the one the use in Geiranger, Norway. This should mean that you don't have to use a tender.

The floating pier should connect to land just east/south of the building at

Skytten Hälls väg No10. http://kartor.eniro.se/m/sdZWT

(next to the small building with the black roof):

There might be a shuttle bus from pier to Nynäshamn station.

Ticket cost is 30sek for a one-day ticket, tickets are sold at the tourist office shopat the cruise pier. See this website for more information:

http://www.visitnynashamn.se/en/home/cruise/faq.4.2447cef013e3c1b82892878.html

Getting around:

Stockholm have an extensive network of public transport consisting of buses, trams, subway, commuter trains and harbour ferries.

Bus tickets Important!!

Buses, trams, Sjövägen, commuter trains (and to some extent subway) requires tickets or travel cards to be bought BEFORE you board the transport.

The only exception is the vintage tram, that goes to Skansen during summers,

which will allow you to buy tickets onboard.

Tickets can be bought on various locations in Stockholm, including cruise ship terminals, tourist offices, 7-eleven shops,

Pressbyrån shops and many other places. Many locations are listed at sl.se but I have found that their map with the locations are not 100% trustable.

You can also use the official SL ticket app which is available for Android and iOS. http://sl.se/en/eng-info/fares/app/

I have no personal experience of using it.

Also note that central Stockholm is Zone A, Nynäshamn is located in Zone C.

For more info regarding tickets and travel cards goto : http://sl.se/en/fares--tickets/

Public transport (SL) map: http://sl.se/contentassets/729d4a6ae7fc42db8cb8221f71367d65/oversikt-innerstan.pdf?id=943

Buses, trams, commuter trains, subway (Tunnelbana/T-bana) and some of the harbour ferries (Sjövägen and boat route 85; Riddarfjärdslinjen), are operated by SL; http://sl.se/en/

Note that tram line #7 no longer goes to Sergelstorg but stops at Kungsträdgården due to construction work at Sergels torg.

Harbour ferries:

Waxholmsbolaget are operating Djugårdfärjan, a harbour ferry between Slussen and Allmännga Gränd at Djurgården (Wasa).

http://www.waxholmsbolaget.se/visitor/djurgarden-ferry/maps-ferry-terminals/

The terminal at Slussen will have a new location from March due to construction works at Slussen. The new terminal will be 130m north of the current one;

See this for more info; http://www.stockholmshamnar.se/*****-oss/nyheter/2016/nu-byggs-ett-nytt-lage-for-djurgardsfarjan/

For Djurgårdsfärjan you will buy tickets during queueing/boarding, either from a manned ticket kiosk which accepts cash and a cards

or from a ticket machine (i think they are chip+pin machines only but I am not sure).

http://www.waxholmsbolaget.se/visitor/djurgarden-ferry/tickets-prices/

Ressel rederi operates another harbour ferry line from Hammarby sjöstad via Tegelhamnen (berth Stadsgårdskajen S167) Allmänna gränd, Djurgården (Vasa) to Nybroplan.

The ferry used on this line is named M/S Emelie:

http://ressel.se/tidtabell-emelie-vardag/

http://ressel.se/ms-emelie/

This ship sells it's tickets via ticket machines onboard so a VISA/Mastercard according to Ressel website.

However according to this post: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?p=47392090#post47392090

They will also accept cash payment. So I would strongly recommend to check with Ressel before making any decisions.

Taxis:

As for taxis only use one of the reputable companies: Taxi Stockholm, Taxi kurir and Taxi 020.

Make sure the taxis have yellow license plates as well as a yellow stickerin the rear side windows.

The Sticker has valuable price info and always check the price info on the sticker before going into a taxi.

The Sticker will look like this:

Car/Limousine service:

Freys Hyrverk http://www.freys.se/

To/From airport:

Airport express train:

https://www.arlandaexpress.com/

Airport coaches:

http://flygbussarna.se/en

http://www.airshuttle.se/

By public transport:

Either commuter train #J38 (Uppsala - Arlanda C - Stockholm C - Älvsjö (-Tumba) which will stop at Arlanda but

when you Embark/disembark at Arlanda, on a commuter train or regional train, you will have to pay an extra fee.

http://sl.se/en/eng-info/fares/arlanda/

or

Commuter train J36 to Märsta station (end stop) switch to bus Bus 583 towards Arlanda (SAS-hangaren).

To get this option in the SL.se travel planner use search with more options (fler val) and choose Via hållplats

enter Märsta station and click sök/search. (see picture below):

Larger version: http://i1303.photobucket.com/albums/ag158/ThunderboltDragon/SthlmARN%20pbTrsp_zpsneekzy9s.png~original

In the opposite direction, bus #583 will have Märsta station as the destination and the commuter train's destination will be Södertälje Centrum.

Public transport directions from/to berths and sights.

Transport from berths to Vasa:

From Stadsgården S167

Some Hop on Hop off boats that goes directly to Vasa.

Weather

The weather in Sweden/Stockholm are in general very unpredictable. March and April are usually still quite cold and the weather can be pretty bad.

Early May is still usually a bit cold, especially during nights but that depends on if it has been a cold or mild winter, but

warmer days also occurs. The rest of May is usually a bit up and down.

June-July-August. Unpredictable. August is generally warmer even if the weather is bad. Midsummers eve is ALWAYS cold and rainy (with a few exceptions).

That is the only certain about the Swedish weather. Last year (where I live) Christmas eve was at it's warmest, warmer then Midsummers eve when it was at it's coldest.

It sounds a bit crazy but is completely true in general for southern Sweden. http://www.vk.se/1600000/julen-varmare-an-midsommar

I was considering using the city bike service when in Stockholm before our cruise. A three day pass would be perfect for us. But I have a couple questions. There will be six of us. Will most places have six bikes available when we arrive? Are the locations to leave them pretty easy to find? I realize they can only be used for three hour periods and then need to be returned.

Is biking around Stockholm fairly safe and easy? We usually bike in rural areas. My family did bike in Vancouver Canada once and we got along fine. But if it is very intense biking in the city maybe we should abandon this idea.

Also do most wear helmets? We do but I'm not sure about packing them.

I don't know really I don't have any experience from biking in Stockholm, I also think some bike rental places will allow you to rent it for more then 3 hours.

However Visit Stockholm writes it like this:

http://www.visitstockholm.com/en/See--do/Guides/Cycle/

The easiest way for visitors to get around town is to rent a bike. There are bike paths and bike lanes all over and you can easily

get around between the islands and out on Djurgården, an area of outstanding natural beauty. Here is a selection of places where you can rent a bike.

Regarding helmets,I think most people (adults) don't use helmets but check with the rental companies if they provide helmets as well.

I think most of them do so you shouldn't have to bring your own.

I would not recommend City Bikes if you are a group of six. The place near my home where you can pick up a bike has nine slots. I am not sure that it is always the same number everywhere. But to expect there will be six bikes waiting when you want them is risky, could be anything between nine and none at all. . And if you find six there is the problem of leaving them again after the three hours. There may not be six free slots where you can put them back.

Bike traffic in Stockholm city is crowded and hectic. Often very high speed. A group of six who are not familiar with the city could mean trouble. I would not recommend it. Public transport is an easy and safe way to get around. However there are places where it might be nice to have a bike, as for instance on Djurgården Island where you will find the Vasa Museum, Skansen outdoor museum, the ABBA Museum and other attractions. There is a place on Strandvägen street, close to the bridge to Djurgården, where you could perhaps rent bikes on one of the days.

Helmets are widely used when biking in Stockholm.

I was wondering if being a group of six would be a problem. It sounds like it will be. I never guessed you might have a problem finding a spot to leave the bike. I figured finding 6 in the beginning could be a problem.

Thanks for your help. I guess it will be public transportation or feet for us.

Need some help please! Checking Stockholm port website, I'm totally unable to find the date I'm looking for. The calendar seems to be blocked on the current date, and no possibility to see my ship arrival date (Celebrity Silhouette, May 10th). I'd like to know in which port this ship is expected, because we've already had a very bad surprise about Travemünde (docked in an industrial port, very far from the city), and need to plan some diy tour in Stockholm.

Any help welcome! Thanks!

If you use the english version of the pos website, just click kryssningsfartyg and then change the date.

However you need to alter the second date before you alter the first or it won't work.

Thanks, but the problem is still there : impossible to change the month, maybe because I'm on an Ipad. But no problem, I received my answer.

Thanks to you, your post is very informative.

Is there a cab service that we can use to get from the airport to our hostel? There are six of us 2 adults 2 students and 2 kids. I figured it might be cheaper to get a taxi then to use the Express and an added bonus it would be more direct.

Any idea what the price of a taxi for 6 into central Stockholm is?

A cab for 5-7 people will cost you around 700-800SEK [~$90USD), I would recommend to use companies listed in the first post.

Going to/from some places in Stockholm (Airports, central station, ferry terminals, cruise ship berths and etc) will mean an additional fee of 20-30SEK.

Surcharges at the junction in Stockholm

Some landowners in Stockholm has chosen to invest extra in service and quality for its passengers, and has chosen to charge an extra fee to finance this.

The fees will cover the costs of logistics, taxi hosts and checking that the taxi companies in the node meets the requirements.

A bit confused. We are on Regal Princess arriving in Stockholm on June 1. Princess lists the port on everything (itinerary, shore excursions, web site) as Nynashamn, but the vessel calls website shows the ship docking at Frihamnen.. Any ideas on how to confirm where the will actually be going? Trying to do some planning...

I'll be taking the Arlanda Express from the Airport to downtown and then plan on taking a taxi to my hotel. Is there a taxi stand at the Central Station where the Arlanda Express finishes?

There will be a line of taxis just a few steps from where you leave the train, at least if you are at the front end of the train. A little longer to walk if you are at the other end. Just make sure you get a safe taxi, as described in the first post here.

Yes there should be a taxi stand just outside the station main entrance.

A bit confused. We are on Regal Princess arriving in Stockholm on June 1. Princess lists the port on everything (itinerary, shore excursions, web site) as Nynashamn,

but the vessel calls website shows the ship docking at Frihamnen.. Any ideas on how to confirm where the will actually be going? Trying to do some planning...

I don't know how to verify it, but I would recommend contacting Princess cruises and perhaps also ports of Stockholm.

However the vessel calls website (belonging to ports of Stockholm)

shows all ships that have booked a berth at any of the ports in Stockholm.

So I think the plan is to berth at Frihamnen if the weather permits it.
