Plaza Deck Oceanview Rooms

I am currently booked in an Oceanview room on the Emerald Deck forward-E210. I could possibly upgrade to an Oceanview room on the Plaza Deck-P246. Would you recommend doing it? I am a bit nervous with Fiesta deck above us if I make the move. Has anyone stayed on Plaza deck and what do you think? Also, I'm on the Grand Princess. Thanks for the help!

I would stay away from the forward 15 cabins or so on Plaza as the hull starts to curve inwards and takes up room in the cabin. ;)

It looks like the casino would be above us.

On the Grand, I did notice the smoke smell from the casino would creep out, but never to our room. It was just a lingering odor around the casino. The crazy thing is that the one day that did go to the casino, it did not smell

I have never been directly below the casino so I cannot comment on that.

Let us know what you end up deciding.

We had a plaza deck outside on the Sapphire Princess in Alaska and it was great. I would see about one of the rooms on starboard side P301-P337 since those would be under the suites on Fiesta deck so would be quiet.

I was hoping those would be available but they are unfortunately sold out already.

Ask to be put on a wait list for the cabin numbers you are interested in.

we've done that before and have been able to get a cabin we wanted, eventually, after final payment, but we were early enough when we requested it that we got it.

I also called on a regular basis to see if the cabins I was interested were available :)

That's a good idea! I'm really hoping a balcony room will open up that holds four people at a reasonable price. When I called to be put on a wait list, they said they were all full for all quad rooms on the ship and that I should just keep looking and if something opens to call them.

If you move, can you come back and tell us how it was? I have toyed with the idea of a Plaza OV. Someday, maybe.

Will do! My cruise isn't until the end of June but I'll definitely write about everything. I'm a really detailed oriented person so hopefully it will help others who have questions.

While I have never stayed in a cabin on the Plaza deck, I read on these boards that some of the rooms are really noisy but not because of the casino but some mechanical issues. Be sure to do a search on your specific room.

We were on the Star and met a man at our dinner table that also had this complaint. He said, that Pam in California noted the same. She has traveled extensively and been a godsend to many of us when trying to make informed decisions. While it looks like many people love these cabins on the Plaza deck, I was deterred from booking one because of the negative aspects of them.

I just seem to recall (but my memory is poor on this topic) that there was a door ...maybe for the pilot to board .... that made these cabins less desirable.

I was in a Plaza Deck Oceanview cabin on Star Princess and will not be ever again. Thankfully I am always a good sleeper at sea so was not disturbed by the constant opening of crew doors to the purser's office and the noise from the Casino above and the stabilizers below--not affected but very much aware at all times.

Thanks for your feedback! Didn't think about the mechanics below the deck.

If I couldn't have a balcony, I would choose the Plaza Deck...great convenient location. We never had noise from above, but yes mechanical noises below. Loud at times.

I as well. On Emerald, it was like someone hitting a pipe below the

cabin. It was only once-in-a-while, and would not stop me from

booking again.

One thing to keep in mind -- the outside cabins further forward

are narrower than other outside cabins. Because of this, if

you have the bed set up as queen, you lose use of the drawers

in the night stand.

Lose the drawers in the night stand? How could that happen?

BTW, We have been on the Plaza deck before and love it. We have it booked again for our upcoming Emerald cruise. It is a forward cabin - P209 - but we have the beds set up as twins.

A question for those of you who have experienced mechanical noises from below the Plaza Deck cabins - were you on the Port side (even numbered cabins) or Starboard (odd numbered).

The reason I asked is that we had a couple of times chosen interior cabins on Plaza Deck, no noise issues and loved the location. The last time we experienced strange noises from below and DH says never again. It sounded to us like carts rolling around over and over. I know that time we had an even numbered cabin, right at the end as you uturn to the left from the art gallery.

I am pretty sure we stayed in that same hall another time, but farther down, closer towards the IC with no noise and once on the Starboard side, again no noise from below.

Funny thing is, when we asked what it might be at PSD (not to complain, just curiosity) they acted like they had no idea.

Because of the curve in the hull and less space in the cabin you actually lose a nightstand or 2 depending on the wall angle. Its just not there. :(
