Two days in Cannes...your favourite combo of towns?

This is on the Equinox during the Film Festival in May. We have an overnighter here. Previously, although not with a cruise, we have visited Nice, Monte Carlo, Monaco and Cannes. We plan to spend part of one day sauntering around Cannes on our own...not sure we need a tour here? Do you think? Another day we wanted to for sure do St. Paul de Vence only because I have heard about it. Celebrity offers a 4 hour visit but am wondering if you feel there is a combo of must see vistas and towns we should take in with a tour for a longer time frame? Don't care as much about museums, chapels and the like...just the ambience of small towns and scenery. This area must be special.

You do not need a tour for Cannes. You could take train to Antibes as well for a DIY after you see what you want in Cannes. You could have a nice seafood lunceon in Antibes. St. Paul is a wondeful way to spend more than 4 hours and there is info on this board on how to get there on your own as you won't need a tour there either.

We were on that cruise this year. We hired Sylvie di Christos for a full day tour that went to Antibes St. Paul de Vence , Grasse and short stops at some of the hill towns between .

On day two we walked around Cannes . Very crowded due to the film festival.

We're on the same sailing next May and plan on going to Nice, Eze and Monte Carlo on Day 1, driving along the Corniche and St Paul de Vence on Day 2. We'll walk around Cannes and maybe take in a movie on the beach the first evening, but I know that there will be huge crowds and we'd rather go somewhere else than stay in town. We lived in France, so this trip will be to rediscover places we've loved on earlier visits.

The three corniches are the parallel roads between Nice and Monaco. They are East of Nice. St. Paul de Vence is West of Nice. You might not want to go through Nice again on Day 2 to drive the corniches and then return through Nice to St Paul de Vence.

Eze is on the Middle (Moyenne) Corniche about half way between Nice and Monaco. For Day 1, you might want to drive over on the Middle Corniche and return by the Low (Basse) Corniche which passes by Beaulieu, St Jean-Cap Ferrat and Villefranche just before getting back to Nice. For Day 2, just go to St Paul de Vence and add Antibes and/or Tourrettes-sur-Loup.

If you must drive all three corniches, on Day 1 go the Middle Corniche stopping at Eze and return by the High (Grande) Corniche, or viceversa. On Day 2, go visit Beaulieu and/or StJean and/or Villefranche and then go to St Paul. While pretty, there is no point on simply driving the stretch of the Low Corniche between Monaco and Nice just for the sake of driving the whole thing.

All three corniches start at the port of Nice. Equal traffic for all in that area. The heaviest traffic is on the Low Corniche between Nice and Beaulieu.

If you want to add a truly beautiful village that hardly any foreign tourist visits, go to Gourdon on Day 2 after you go to St Paul in the morning. Gourdon is on the hills North of Grasse. Gourdon sits high above the Gorges du Loup and it has spectacular views over the entire area. Great restaurant right on the terrace overlook.

If you are saying you are in Cannes when the festival is out I'd get out of town both days. One day north to Antibes, that has more great restaurants then I could eat at in a month and then the next day go south to Théoule-sur-Mer.
