Just to clarify, there were at least 2 sets of 2 people that were removed from the ship on 2 different occasions, there should have been more but one of the big groups had a number of foster children among them and it was felt that removing them was not possible due to this situation.

I'm sorry but "at least" implies to me that you are guessing. Were you party to the removal of these people? In other words do you work for P&O or were you a member of these groups. If not, how could you possibly know that there were a number of foster children in a group?

Sorry but this is a myth. There was some problems and it would appear that some people were put off the ship. But it was no where near 30. I read many FB pages and there were a number of people posted who were on the cruise and only one I could find actually saw people being taken off. And they talked of 3/4.

Clearly 30 is a vast exaggeration.

As always happens in cases like this.

This is from a recent cruise review:

Now to the major problem......the fellow passengers. I cannot believe that on a ship carrying 3500 passengers one particular group of around 35 ruined our cruise. The family from hell. Nine were thrown off the ship at particular ports. Swearing, screaming, head butting their spouses, smoking on balconies, shop lifting, throwing their kids in the pool, trying to sun bathe topless.....so many rumours flying about that they were "travellers" and paid for by our social services which I now believe to be true. If anyone is on Britannia chat please read the comments. There was more flesh on display than at a strip club.

There are other numbers mentioned on Facebook.

Exactly all rumours. The 30 has now come down to 9 put off. All rumours. Rubbish about them being paid for. Rumour no fact at all.

Embellishment of a story. Unless it is fact you should not be posting.

Can we always rely on your posts to be 100% accurate then, and in no way biased in P&O's favour?

No I don't work for P & O, when you see security officers and Police on the quayside and then see people being escorted from the ship and these people were part of one of the groups it doesn't take a brain surgeon to work out what was happening. Also when you get people clapping and cheering whilst watching people being removed who were probably part of another group then you form your own conclusions. People we met on the cruise witnessed the brawl on the lido deck where bottles, glasses and chairs were being thrown about and the bar staff and waiters pulled the shutters down and ran to safety. The people who were escorted off in Antigua may have been part of a large group of 25 that included a large number of children but I didn't really take a lot of notice of peoples faces so couldn't confirm this.

I agree that there have a lot of postings on the Britannia Facebook page quoting numbers involved which could have been misconstrued but suffice to say if you had been on this cruise and paid over £7k for the privilege of seeing this type of behaviour you wouldn't be happy.

I will not be posting any more on this subject as it would appear that some of the hardline P & O cruisers don't take too kindly to peoples thoughts and opinions on what was in my mind a floating boozy Butlins holiday.

Thank you for taking the time to explain that. I'm sure you appreciate that there is a lot of rumour and speculation over things like this and it is important to deal with facts.

Now that you have taken the time to detail exactly what you saw, I fully accept what you have said and I now do appreciate that this did happen.

Can I also say it is disgusting behaviour and that it is totally unacceptable that you experienced this and also how disappointed I am that P&O allowed it to happen in the first place. Hopefully they have learned from this.

So 30 people out of 3500 disgrace themselves and start fighting. Is the fault of P&O ? How is that?

My point is that there was an incident some people observed it. The numbers involved have varied and the numbers of those thrown off have varied.

The incident happened P&O dealt with it and a group of idiots were disposed off.

Not sure that P&O allowed it? How does that work. Good that it was dealt with

My own opinion on this is that if P&O were to give early bookers a much better price deal than they currently offer, they would very probably make far more early sales than at present, this would result in far fewer unsold cabins to be offered at the last minute probably at higher prices than at present, and hopefully result in far less loutish behaviour, and probably a slightly higher average per person income.

Ergo P&O's current pricing policy is a major contributory factor to this loutish behaviour.

Now I am sure you will disagree with me Dai, but I am just as entitled to air my views as you, and I suspect that others might also concur.

The prices have not gone down this year as much as in the past also, no one has any proof that these people were in fact late bookers.

The behaviour was disgusting but we don't know how much fare they paid. With a large group I doubt very much that it was a late booking.

Just because you cause trouble does not make you a late booker.

P&O did allow it to happen as they were irresponsible in serving people alcohol to the point they were excessively drunk. They also should have acted immediately on bad behaviour around the pool etc. P&O have a responsibility for the safety of passengers and also for their enjoyment. P&O must take some responsibility for allowing the behaviour to get so out of control.

We are all making many assumptions about what happened as ever.

You are of course correct Dai, I have no idea if the trouble makers were late bookers or not, and there must be countless late bookers who are perfectly respectable P&O passengers.

However to paraphrase a well known anecdote, "If you charge peanuts, don't be surprised when some of your passengers only want to monkey around".;)
