Imagination diverted to San Diego- Revised itinerary

Imagination is going to San Diego tomorrow.

We're sorry to say, the forecast in Long Beach calls for heavy swells throughout the day on Sunday. Consequently, these conditions are not favorable for us to safely dock and remain alongside. Therefore, we have made the decision dock in San Diego instead of Long Beach tomorrow.

Please continue with your plans to proceed to the Long Beach terminal where porters will be available to accept your checked luggage. Check-in for your cruise will now be from 9:30AM to 1:30PM at the Long Beach cruise terminal. Once checked-in, we will provide all guests with complimentary motor coach transportation to San Diego (approximately three hour ride). Please do not proceed to San Diego directly since all guests must be registered in Long Beach.

I am sorry to say due to similar conditions forecasted for Monday in Catalina, we are forced to cancel our call. However, we were able to secure an overnight stay in Ensenada for your enjoyment.

Below is our revised itinerary.

DAY PORT ARRIVE DEPART

Sun San Diego, CA 6:00 PM

Mon Fun Day @ Sea

Tues Ensenada 8:00 AM overnight

Wed Ensenada 8:00AM

Thu Los Angeles (Long Beach), CA 8:00 AM

Pre-purchased shore excursions, as well as, a refund of the taxes fees and port expenses for Catalina will be automatically posted to your Sail & Sign account.

Please keep in mind staterooms may not be available when you board since we will have just completed saying goodbye to our guests from the current cruise. We suggest you carry with you any medications you may need as luggage delivery may run later than normal.

We apologize for this change and trust you'll understand your safety and that of our crew is our number one priority. Most importantly, we can't wait to welcome you aboard the Carnival Imagination.

I'm on the Inspiration leaving Monday and wondering if those swells will still be around.... :eek:

I Haven't gotten an email or call yet like those on the Imagination roll call, but who knows what tomorrow will bring.

We are on the May 10 sailing. Swells are supposed to end by Tuesday I sure hope so, as I hate riding buses. Lol

Agreed, glad I'm not on this cruise.

Not to mention the 3 hour bus ride-ick! We sometimes travel with young children, this would be a nightmare. I bet cruisers who live in or near San Diego are thrilled. :rolleyes:

It would suck if you lived in San Diego, just to have to drive the 90+ miles to Long Beach to check in, then be driven back down to San Diego to board the ship.

Only thing open at night are some restaurants and the casinos. Wonder if the one around the corner from Hussong's has bingo that night. Has to be better than cruise ship bingo.

We are on this sailing. I called carnival to see if we could either swap sail dates or cancel our sailing. I was denied both. I pleaded with the rep, I said I was traveling with 3 seniors, 2 children and a wife that is already staring to complain. She said carnival reserves the right to make itinerary changes especially if it is in our best of safety / interest. I told everyone that we will just make the best of our trip.

I want to take this opportunity to apologize to the passengers of the bus that we will be on for the aforementioned whining wife, kids and 3 old ladies... That I'm sure will be making a ruckus .. LOL

I have to wonder what the Passenger Services Act is gonna do with this...

If Carnival has to pay $300 for each passenger on the current cruise that began in Long Beach on Thursday but will end tomorrow in San Diego, PLUS rent enough buses to get 2,000 people to Long Beach, PLUS either rent more buses to get tomorrow's folks back to LB on Thursday (or pay another $300 PP to violate the PSA again), then they are going to lose a LOT of money. These cruises were really cheap to begin with (some as low as $220 PP)/

I wonder if the PSA has an easy out if safety is claimed as the reason for the open loop...

We only booked this cruise since.it was going to Catalina! It will be an adventure for sure!!!

I will keep you all posted how it all plays out!

Not to mention parking at the port will be a nightmare. Usually people embarking will take the parking spots of those disembarking the ship.

I SO TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU ON THIS ONE!!!!!! San Diego has such a better port, they'll see that tomorrow. In fact my DH & I will be going down to the SD port to see them off tomorrow evening. There's a neat place to eat & have a brew & watch the ship. Sure hope they will be using SD's new port building. It was build last year & it is very nice.

I know what you mean. I live in San Diego & we have taken this cruise a few times & I so know I would not be a happy camper if this would have happened to us. They need to come back & use the San Diego port. It is so much better than the Long Beach port. And our city is so much nicer. So much to see & do & so much closer to the airport where everyone flys into. LA airport is such a long way to the LB port. Here it's just like a very short 10 min. Taxi ride away.

At least Carnival is keeping all their guest safe. It would be a nightmare if the ship got damaged and passengers were injured due to the high waves. Then people would really be up in arms complaining how Carnival did not keep them safe.

I have been thru something like this as recently as last September in Port Canaveral. We left at one dock and came back to a different one. No big deal. Carnival makes it as smooth and easy as possible for their passengers.

I do find it strange that passengers are not allowed to rebook or cancel this cruise due to weather. Their policy usually is to allow guests these options. Wonder why.

Those two ships are docking at San Pedro. The Carnival ship docks in Long Beach.

Apparently the high surf will affect one more than the other.

PVSA (Passenger Vessel Services Act) has only three exceptions, none of which seem to apply to this issue. From what it initially looks like, Carnival could be paying a lot of money to ensure guest safety.

Well Long Beach and San Pedro are right next to each other inside the same area of break water.
