VANTAGE GREEK ISLAND CRUISE info needed

This isn't really a river cruise, so you probably won't get very many answers in this forum. I did a quick search in the Other Cruise Lines forum and found this thread on the cruise you're asking about:

Sounds like a nice trip. Enjoy!

Thanks Jazzbeau...

Where can I post to inquire about small yacht cruising of the greek Islands that is similar to Harmony?

Either "Other Cruise Lines"

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=218

or "Luxury Cruising"

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=444

would be my guess.

We were on the Harmong G last year to cruise from Dubrovnik to Venice. Are there any questions that I can answer for you? This was a Vantage trip, but the yacht was leased from a Greek company.

A few questions- I have cruised exclusively on Oceania & am looking at a Greek Island cruise but on a smaller ship. I have read a few reviews about Harmony but nothing much out there. I do not want to 'rough it' because of the small size nor do I do want to feel alot of motion. Thinking of booking an upper deck cabin (303). What was your onboard experience, service etc...they rate it as Mid-Lux. We are active, what was the average age of passengers? Thanks

Canuck, I have not cruised on Oceania, but the Harmony G is not luxurious at all. We were on level two and the rooms were basic but very clean; adequate for us. The rooms on the third floor were just a little larger.

This is an older yacht. The dining room is very small and was very hot at dinner time. We did not feel any motion during our cruise, but we also had very good weather except for the day we were docked in Venice.

I do have photos if you are interested in viewing them I can forward them to you. My email address is h2otstr at aol dot com.

Thanks H2O- I found some videos on youtube. I also read about the temp. on the ship...still not sure about Harmony, but would still like a small ship cruise for the Greek Is. any other recommendations welcome. I also see you have used several river cruise companies...is there one that stands out & what would you would recommend, for example: Amsterdam-Basel.

We were on a Louis cruise with Trafalgar....also an older boat, but quite comfortable and wonderful food. We really only slept and ate on the ship, with the exception of one day at sea, we were in ports every day. There was a small casino and evening entertainment which was not impressive. We were on the Perla, which I am certain is no longer sailing, but I had serious reservations about Louis Cruises until we actually boarded and while I wouldn't classify it as luxury by any means, we upgraded our cabin to the top level (which was very reasonable) and as I said, were comfortable...only "complaint" was bathroom was hysterically small! EG: I was in the shower, dropped the soap and had to open the bathroom door in order to pick it up! But I'd still sail with them again. :D Trafalgar did all our arrangements and we used them again and will use them again.

Hydrokitty, we did the same trip with Trafalgar and were also on the Perla. I think we may have been there several years before you were and the ship was awful. It was dirty, the food was awful, smoking was allowed in the rooms and the people in the cabin next to us smoked and our room reeked. The port stops were great and we had a good time, though.

Canuk, if you are looking for a more upscale trip you should probably look at AMAwaterways, Tauck, or Uniworld. We are not very picky in who we travel with, so we switch companies often. The itinerary is the first item we look at, then the dates and then the price.

I have a credit with AMA and a free trip with Grand Circle, so we will take our next two trips with them :D.

If you want luxury and a price within reason, I would suggest considering Azamara (2 R-ships) or the 3 (soon to be 4) Oceania R-ships. They have <700 passengers but are luxury so you never feel like you are part of a crowd. Look for itineraries that visit the islands the big ships can't get to, and for longer stays that will mean your ship is alone for at least part of the day.

Windstar is a great way to see the Greek Islands. We were on the Windstar in 2010 and it was a wonderful experience. There were only about 150 people aboard. There is nothing better than having a B-B-Q on deck while of the coast of Santorini!

Have been looking at the sail cruise option:rolleyes:. I have also come across the sister ship to Harmony G...the Harmony V which is listed as newer and offered thru Euro Cruises. I have sailed on all the R class ships with Oceania 10-15days & loved the experience but would still like a smaller passenger ship for Greece. We would do a land trip prior to boarding.

I enjoy the research and planning so hoping to put the deciding stage to rest:confused:

You're kidding!! We went in late August, 2006. Could we possibly have been on the same trip? :D

I totally agree!! We were on the Star Flyer on our Costa Rica trip and it was a wonderful experience for us too. Sitting on the top deck while they raise the sails to the sound track from the movie "Columbus" is something I will NEVER forget!!! Do look into a sailing ship of the Greek Islands.

We were there in March of 2004. I think the ship might have had some renovations before you sailed. We also had several hundred students from Canada traveling with us and they kinda took over the ship.

Oops, my son teaches in Denver and he chaperoned a group of students who were on a Louis ship. His group was smaller since he teaches at a school for the gifted and talented, but I can imagine how a group like that takes over everything! They must have renovated the Perla because it was obviously old, but very comfortable and the food was to die for!! Believe it of not, when we cruised after that we always compared the food to the Perla and only a couple of cruises have compared well.

Look up "Star Clippers" here on Cruise Critic or Google. We're doing a 10 day cruise from Venice to Athens this summer.

  • 2 weeks later...

Friends cruised with a company called Voyages to Antiquities two years ago from Athens to Istanbul on their one ship, the Odyssey. They loved it. The ship is not huge--only holds about 350 passengers. You might look into this one.

Anyone else booked on Vantage Harmony G. We would also like to hear from past voyages on the Harmony G.

Did you ever take the Greek Island cruise on the Harmony G?

If so, we have a deposit on a Jun departure and wanted to get your thoughts on the yacht, the ports, and the itinerary.

Thanks,

Wondering which date in June is your Greek Island cruise aboard the Harmony G?

We are going June 13 (overnight flight to Athens).

We are expecting small quarters...but are interested in the Greek Islands not spending time in our cabin.

Let me know if you are still going....
