What currency?

Take UK$ and change as required.

Take credit cards for major purchases.

No problems in changing money as you go, and you can leave excess cash in your cabin safe.

Not sure which cruise line you are on, but Holland America for example had an exchange service for Viet Nam Dong on the ship, but many local merchants will take US$, not sure about UK Pounds. Therefore, we took a lot of small US$ bills so that we didn't get a lot of Viet Nam Dong as change.

For the other ports (with some exceptions in Thailand) you will need the local currency for local merchants, taxis etc. For Hotels and major purchases as noted previously you can usually use credit cards.

If your arriving at Hong Kong airport, there are money exchanges and ATM's, but try and use an ATM from a bank and not companies that specialize in money exchange.

Not sure what your plans are for Singapore, staying after the cruise or leaving immediately. Others may be able to tell you if there are ATM's at the Marina Bay Terminal. We arrived at the airport and used an ATM there to get Singapore Dollars. If your staying in Singapore, you might get some local currency on the ship and then go to an ATM once you get to your hotel.

Depending your shorex plans at Nha Trang and HCMC, your needs for local currency (known as the Vietnamese "Dong") are minimal to none. The mightly U.S. dollars ($1, $5, $10 and $20 are fine or $50 and $100 - all of them should be new or near new, no marks or wrinkled, looking clean & fresh for merchants/vendors to accept them (and, convert them in making the sales transaction ... know the official exchange rates, less a surcharge for converting for your convenience.) Tipping is not widely expected but never turned down or rejected, 10% or 15% for services like the beauty salon for a hair cut or nail session is good.

If flying into & staying in HKG pre-cruise, local ATM is very convenient ... HSBC branches & terminals are everywhere. Alert your bank first and also many merchants have chip teminals but it isn't mandatory, yet.

Why would you change English Pounds to US Dollars and then to Dong - you loose at every exchange!!!

The English Pound will be accepted at the the ports/countries you go to - just change as much as you think you will need as you go. After all your expenditure will not be that great in port each day unless you intend to purchase expensive items such a jewellery etc.
