Thanks for the pictures and report. We will be there next May and will definitely use this for our DIY. Had thought of the Hoho bus but this definitely changes my mind.

Tallinn is definitely a Baltic port that you can do on your own. No need to pay for ship's excursion here.

Great review of Tallinn - we shall be visiting in June as part of our Baltic Cruise. We have been told that it isn't worth taking a RCCL tour as the city is very walkable so we plan to do that ... now I have your review, it will make it much easier!

is there a tram or bus that takes you to upper town so that one does not have to worry about taxi-ripoff?

are 3 hours enough to complete either Bent or RickSteven walking tour without stops?

Thanks also! We did an Alla Tours here a couple of years ago, the tour was a very reasonable price, but I did not double back to look again & shop in the artisan's shops which were so interesting. The leather and textiles were noteworthy.

VirtualRain: I saw your post on Tallinn when researching my upcoming Princess "Baltic Heritage" cruise in the summer of 2014 and enjoyed it very much. I found it very useful in planning my day in the city. Now I have a friend who is also planning to visit Tallinn and I was telling her about your post. When I went back to get the URL for her I found that all your great pictures were marked something to the effect of "Image Protected by Owner." Is there some way to give her access them so she can better plan her visit as well? Thanks, and thanks for the great initial post. - Old Eagle.
