Oasis Suites and Drink Package

Thanks for the information. Just another reason why we probably won't buy a drink package. Even if the wine is not of the highest quality, as one poster observed, it gets better after a couple martinis.

I love the suite and feel it is worth the expense. We use the room, we love the ship but I like relaxing in my room too. I love the coastal kitchen and suite holders lounge. I also really enjoyed the drink package...I look forward to hearing about your trip.

Are there ANY people here on CC that are lowly Gold and Platinum members like us? Some of us don't get those perks!! :-) (But we will SOMEDAY!!)

Since it is a week cruise, why not start out seeing how you do with the suite perks and wine you bring on board the first few days, decide later if want a package. You could buy just for the last 4 days and do some of cruise with and some without, just a thought.

That's our plan. We haven't cruised since drink prices went up so we'll see after the first couple of days. We're not big lounge people because of the limited selection but we'll be checking out the new SL and DL on Oasis in October.

As for the sniping about the suites/drink packages/ etc etc. Good grief people. Maybe those of us that CHOOSE to spend our money on suites and USE our real estate also want to USE our money wisely on our drinking. The OP asked a reasonable question and the snarky comments about his choice of cabin are beyond ridiculous. You can think a suite is a waste. You can think a drink package is a waste. Then don't post here and go on with your lives. This constant need to pick fights on this board is amazing to me.

We are limited on vacation time and once my DH had a taste of the GS, he doesn't want a balcony stateroom.

We're going to follow this advice and decide whether to buy or not after we board.

 

One issue that I've yet to see discussed is exactly what complimentary drinks are provided during the dinner hours. I hear cocktails are covered but martinis are not. Why cover a gin and tonic but not a gin and vermouth? I'm sure the bartenders can explain things like that after we board.

 

I also hear the included house wines are poor. But, for $130 PD for a drink package for two people, buying a good bottle of wine is a good trade-off.

Not sure where you live or how much wine you would dink at dinner, but you can bring 2 bottles of wine (per stateroom) with you! Then you know you will have a good quality wine!

We're retired but we're also vacation time limited. We have two rather large dogs (Ginger is a Great Dane and Doc is a Great Pyrenees) which we rescued and we prefer to limit the time they spend in the kennels. Therefore, we have limited ourselves to two seven day Caribbean cruises per year. Our vacation budget will cover these two cruises in a suite. It certainly would cover the drink packages too. It appears that a package just won't be a good value for us.

DW does not like flying so we drive (12 hours) to the port. We have plenty of space to bring along some very good wines. Two bottles won't last seven days though. But, I'm thinking that if we are satisfied with the complimentary cocktails, we can buy a few bottles of wine on board. That, almost certainly make more sense than two drink packages ($130 PD).

There are other options for you Rocket....once on board, on the main promenade, you will see a table set up and they will be selling the wine package. It is not accessible on line but you can get 7 to 20 bottles for a discounted rate. You pay a flat fee for how many bottles you want to purchase and you can order any bottle off the menu and they deduct the bottle off your package.

I loved this before because every night at dinner I could select any bottle off the menu and have it with dinner. We got the 10 bottle package for 7 days and found it useful. And let's say you have a bottle at dinner and then open a second bottle the same night but can only finish 1/2 of it....they will re-cork it and you can take it to your room or have them save what is left for the next night at dinner.

You also can remember that if you have the drink package there are many excellent wines in vintages and other places on the ship and they are included! For example one of the best glasses we got was $14.00 a glass but with the drink package we only paid $2.00 and sometimes they would let the upcharge slide.

Hope this helps. For us the drink package was not as much about saving a ton of money as it was about the ease of drinking what ever we wanted and not paying each time or having an unexpected bill at the end of the trip.

I did the drink package on my last cruise with Princess. I don't drink that much at home but, since I'm on a vacation, I thought it would be fun to try. I would have a Bloody Mary for breakfast, one or two drinks in the morning at the pool or whatever I was doing in the am. For lunch a glass of wine or beer. In the afternoon I might have one or two drinks before dinner. Wine and an after dinner drink in the MDR. After dinner one or two drinks. So between five to 10 drinks spread out throughout the day. The cost was $50 a day and you had to purchase it for all seven days with Princess.

With our next cruise on the Oasis 9/12, we plan on bringing two bottles of wine. So, I might not buy the drink package till the 2nd or 3rd day.

For others who might be reading this, Royal requires at least 4 days left on the cruise to buy the drink package.

Last time on oasis I was able to order 2-3 beers and leave the suite lounge and was even encouraged to. The even asked f I had a cooler bag as they would fill with ice. I did tip daily though.

Depends on what you like - I like the Champagne in the lounges, I bring on 2 bottles of wine and I am ok. But my DH will ONLY drink Guinness. He could not get Guinness in the lounges so we decided it was best to get him a package.

I guess it depends on what you like and if it is available.
