Lisbon hotels?

If you might like a boutique hotel in a great location near the riverfront look at one of the Brown's Hotel Group places. We stayed at Brown's Downtown and really enjoyed it. Apple computer in the room, breakfast at Brown's Coffee Shop, trendy modern furniture. May not be the right fit for everyone but it worked out well for us.

You could stay just about anywhere in the city you want because taxis are very inexpensive and they all know where the port is. Check out google maps by putting in "hotels" in the area of the dock. If you are going to be here for more than over night you might want to see the beautiful and huge commerce plaza / Prace do Commerico it is surrounded by cafes and shops and is right on the river. There are areas in the plaza where there are clean toilets but you pay 1 euro to use them. Just ask anyone where the toilet is or "Casa de Bano?" If you are paying for coffee or food at restaurants you can use their toilets for free. As always, anywhere in Lisbon, do not set your bag, backpack or purse down by your feet or over the chair. The pickpockets are extremely professional, stealthy and quick.

All of the pastry shops are delicious and a must try is the Pastel de Nata which is a custard tart. It originated before the 18th century when monks used hundreds of egg whites for starching clothes and the Nun's habits. Many egg yolks were left to be used in pastry and the egg tart was born. It is delicious no matter where you buy it.

Ola - Hello

Where is the toilet? Casa de Bano (casa de ban yo)

You will not have any trouble with people understanding English because the tourist industry always has people that speak English. No matter where we go in Portugal besides a small village, if the person I am speaking to doesn't speak English they will go find someone who does to help you. The Portuguese people are helpful and kind.

We're just back from our cruise which departed from Lisbon. Spent four nights there and love, love, loved the Casa Balthazar. It's listed under B and Bs, but isn't at all what we're used to in that category in the states, so I happened upon it quite by chance. Our suite had a large living room with TV and a separate bedroom with sitting area and French doors that opened onto a tiny balcony with a nice view. It was beautifully decorated and extremely quiet. The baths are huge and ensuite, We had a small butler's pantry with mini-fridge, microwave, and Nespresso machine and pods. Stocked up each day with yogurt, milk, coffee pods and has wine glasses, espresso and coffee cups, etc. There is a small pool in a lovely courtyard, and a beautiful breakfast is brought to your door each morning at your requested time (included). It is away from the traffic and business of downtown. There was a nice leafy square just a block or so away where we ate many lunches and dinners and watched the world of Lisbon go by. Many, many nice restaurants and sites are within easy walking distance. We only took a taxi to the pier. It is all I ever wanted in a hotel, and more. Check it out on TripAdvisor.

oh, yes, Pickypicky, your hotel/B&B sounds great.

We were on your sailing as well

We stayed at the boutique hotel Alfama Riverside. Small, newly opened so clean and fresh. Price was low, good breakfast; very close to port; and a short walk to the Lisbon Cathedral. Would stay there again

This place sounds heavenly pickypicky. I do not know Lisbon well but have noted this place down in my travel journal for future reference. Thanks
