Disney luggage tag question

Hello

I'm a first time cruiser. Wife and I will be going on the Magic summer 2018 Med cruise. I saw an ad for cruise tag protectors that work for "any" cruise line (according to the ad). The examples they pictured didn't show a Disney tag. It looked like a good product, but don't want to buy it if its not needed.

Are the Disney tags sturdy? How do you affix them to your luggage? Do you use a tag protector?

Thanks in advance. I'm sure I'll have a few more "newbie" questions before we're all set :-)

Completely not needed. While other cruise lines have you print your own tags, making something to insert them in useful, DCL will send you a booklet of cruise info about 30 days before embarkation. In that packet you'll find very sturdy, laminated sort of luggage tags. They'll send you 2 per cruiser, but if you need more you can get them at the Welcome Center at MCO, from any bellman at WDW, or from the porters at the cruise terminal (whichever of these is your first stop!). The tags are needed only on your checked bags; any sort of ID will be fine on your carry on. If we have extras of the tags DCL sends, I put them on the carry ons as well.

DO NOT WORRY if your cabin number changes after you get the tags. If you know the new number before cruising, write it in black marker on the tag. If you don't know it (say you purchase an upgrade at the terminal), no worries--DCL's computer system has it all covered and your bags will arrive at the right cabin.

SO, yes they are sturdy. You peel of the indicated portion and stick the two ends together--similar to airline luggage tags. Absolutely no need for tag protectors.

The peel-and-stick luggage tags are if you're taking the Magical Express shuttle, and having your bags sent back to your arrival airport, but this is different from the character tags DCL will send to your cabin to attach to your luggage if you're not using it--

Those are for picking up your luggage in port from assigned areas. (Much like the "character" sections of Disney-park parking, back in the day.) But if you ARE using the Shuttle and peel-and-sticks, as the Debarkation video explains, they probably won't be necessary, as your luggage will be checked and sent along from your cabin on the last night.

Good info. Thank you.

You will receive peel and stick tags for your bags on the way TO the ship, regardless of whether you have booked DCL transfers or not. You place these on the bags when your next destination is the ship. If flying in the day of the cruise and wanting DCL to claim your bags at the airport and you not see the from the time you check them at your home airport till they arrive outside your cabin, place the tags on before you check the bags at home. If you are flying in early or going to WDW or elsewhere before the cruise, place the tags when you leave your vacation spot for your drive to the ship.

Magic Express is a complimentary service that runs between MCO and WDW resorts only. It has nothing to do with transportation to or from the cruise terminal . If you do On Board Airline Check In, you will receive airline luggage tags in your room the last full day of the cruise. You will place these on your bags and place the bags in the hall; you'll then see them at your home airport. If you do not do on board check in, you'll get tags that feature a color and character; this tells you where to claim your bags in the terminal. These are a lightweight cardboard tag--not as sturdy as the ones in your booklet, but basically fine for getting from your cabin to the terminal....and often ours stay on as an ID tag for the next several non-Disney trips!

You are sent the peel and stick tags before your cruise regardless of if you have Disney transportation booked. As MM said, you put those on bags you aren't physically carrying on the ship, and you put them on when your next stop is the ship.

The character tags are for disembarkation and aren't part of the question for the OP.

The peel and stick tags from before the cruise should be taken off before putting bags out or taking bags off for disembarkation.

Anyway, OP, since you're sent sticky tags like airline tags ahead of time, and don't print your own line on other lines (for now at least), the protectors aren't needed or even usable.
