Hotel and transfer, plus some things to do...

:confused:I am traveling with my husband, our two children (ages 14 and 18) and my mother in law. This will be my husband and I's second cruise and the first cruise for the rest. We are flying in 2 days early to see New Orleans.

We booked with the Hampton Inn New Orleans~ Downtown. Any advice on getting from hotel to the pier? What about from the Airport to the Hotel with a party of 5? While trying to save as much money as possible.

Any advice on places to eat with "picky eater's?" Yes, the kids and hubby. We all like seafood, but my kids can be picky. The Hotel will supply breakfast, we will need more lunch and dinner must do's. Burgers? Seafood? Lunch we would prefer to stay around the $10-$15 pp. Dinner we could splurge and do a little more.

We know there is a street car right outside our hotel, can anyone tell us where it goes and which street car we should ride?

Any must see's and do's that our family shouldn't miss out on while in New Orleans?

Welcome to New Orleans! There are several Hampton Inns downtown - my guess is the one on St. Charles which is on the streetcar line. It is very easy ride to the edge of the French Quarter. The St. Charles line will take you from Canal Street to Carrollton - past some beautiful homes in the Garden District along with Audubon Park (the Zoo is in the back) and Tulane & Loyola Universities. Please check the New Orleans section under Ports of Call for ideas. I highly recommend the WWII museum especially since you have teenagers that have been or will be studying American History. I also like walking along the Mississippi River & watching the ships go by. There is an outlet mall adjacent to the port (called the Riverwalk - they have a food court, too) and then an upscale mall (Saks, Tiffany, Brooks Brothers, etc) just another block over.

For restaurant ideas, please check a local food critic's website - www.nomenu.com. You can search by neighborhood. I really like Mandina's on Canal Street - it is on the Canal St. streetcar line. They have huge variety. In the Quarter, I like Cafe Maspero's on Decatur for a casual meal.

I think you're going to have to do uber or cab from the airport and to the pier unfortunately.

My recommendations are Mother's for lunch and Drago's for dinner. Debris Po Boy is my favorite at Mothers. You have to at least try the charbroiled oysters at Drago's. Here are their pages from the nomenu website referenced above, as well as their actual webpages.
