Newcastle Port

Recommended Posts

We are travelling up from Kent the day before our cruise and staying at the Premier Inn Port of Tyne South Shields. How far away are we from the Passenger terminal and how long will it take us to drive there on the Sunday morning from the Premier Inn?

From Premier Inn South Shields you will need to drive just under 6 miles under the Tyne tunnel to get to the cruise terminal which is in North Shields. Unless Thomson have changed their normal departure place!

From Premier Inn North Shields (ferry terminal) the distance is about 500 yards

I travel by train to Newcastle and take a taxi to the Premier Inn. On departure day it is a nice 500 yard stroll to the terminal :)

The Port of Tyne is North Shields. South Shields is on the south side of the Tyne. You would need to use the Tyne Tunnel or the Shields Ferry. There is, as davecttr has said, a Premier Inn right next to the port.

Have a look at the website:- portoftyne.com. If you click on to where it highlights directions, you will see the map.

Unless you have a good reason to be staying in South Shields, I would suggest you change your premier inn booking from South Shields to North Shields, as you are then so much closer.

Totally agree.

On the other hand it is only going to take 20 mins to drive there so no need to change hotels

Unless there is a problem with the tunnels, in which case you need to allow time to drive via Newcastle.

It's a very rare event for the Tyne Tunnel tombe closed!

If you are wanting to fill your time before joining the ship you could either have a look around Tynemouth (also on the North side) or go into the Royal Quays Outlet Centre which is more or less next door to where your ship will be.

Shopping in Royal Quays sounds good to me. Not sure the other half would agree lol:halo:
