4 New cruise ships to be ordered??

Had a photo on my computer for quite some time that someone had taken at a cruise show way back,You can see it is in a glass case.

The picture is below and is certainly very similar if not the same as those Mike has posted!

It would definitely take some getting used to Sid,,,,very unconventional but Vago did say the "World" class ships will be a futuristic design!!:)

According to mscfans.it the design is owned by STX who came up with the design at their old yard in Finland having built Oasis and Allure, it may be that this was intended as the next step for RCI. The Finnish yard is now part owned by Meyer-Werft in Germany who build for Disney,RCI, NCL among others.

Notice there are no smoke stacks on the side in the picture I posted compared to the first one Mike posted.

It has a bit of the Seaside in the design in it, mscfans.it are currently only guessing that this will in fact be the new design until MSC themselves either confirm or deny it.

Sid,,,I would have to think it may be something close,,,Vago said the new ships will have alot of open air spaces and a futuristic design,,,,this concept definitely checks both of those boxes,,,just like Seaside news,,,we'll just have to sit and wait!!!:(

Looks better from the rear Quarter & Profile than the first pick posted. Assuming it would be for the US market to avoid having to install high efficiency diesel engine's with scrubber's to meet the EPA coastal emission standards.

Running on LNG does Way with all that, note the front structure is the same almost as Seaside.

No need for scrubbers RJ,,,MSC "World Class" ships will run on LNG which cuts Nitrogen Oxide by 80%, it almost eliminates Sulfur Oxide and particulate matter, and it reduces the amount of Carbon Dioxide emissions by 20%.:)

So does the "World Class" ships and MSC's new private Island Ocean Cay have something in common???? Just came across this little tidbit:

My friend's father works in the Bahamian government and he's going to find out if the infrastructure is still in place and able to be used in the future.

The island was used for sand extraction, MSC have signed a 100 year lease.

Mr. Vago's desire to own the world's largest cruise ship is not an entirely secret by any means... I remember reading here in the Continental Europpean economic specialised press some 8 to 10 years ago that MSC was just working on it with then STX Turku (Finland; now under Meyer Werft control). The photos given at that time were similar if not the same as the ones shared by Mike and Sidari. The project was then postponed after the huge economical crisis more or less in 2010 and then likely abandoned somewhat in 2012-2013.

Those images seem to be something that can eventually be a very beatiful cruise ship and very futuristic, even nowadays... but I suspect that they are far from ressembling what the final product will likely be.

First of all they will need to redesign at least part of it to cope with the technoloogical advances of the time... And apart that detail about the chimney on the various renderings:

1. Where are the life boats?

2. If current MSC commercial scheme is to be met, where is the Yatch club? Or may they just have a different Yatch club?

3. Why are they investing on an "acqua theater" with guests watching the shows facing the ship, not the sea?

4. Is the so big distance between the basic infraestrocture of the ship with the first decks and the bigginning of the tower of the superior decks be doable as it is, or will they need a larger tower?

...Too many questions just for now... On one thing we are all in aggreement: The MSC World Class of ships will certainly figure under the world's largest ships ever built and that will certainly be a good marketing point for MSC and it will make MSC to shake the market a bit with the American lines and that will ultimately be good for us, the consummers!... :)

I agree,,,alot of questions,,,but if the "World Class" renderings resemble anything close to the XP Tray prototype,,,MSC will definitely have one of the coolest looking ships at sea,,as well as the largest,,,,at least until the brass at RCCL want to re-take that title.

Queen Mary 2 uses 2 gas turbine engines,,but they are fueled by marine gas and not LNG,,,

here are the specs for QM2's propulsion engines:

In order to propel Queen Mary 2 at speeds of up to 30 knots (34 miles per

hour), a great deal of power and technology is needed. The ship is powered

by an advanced environmentally-friendly plant with electricity generated by

four diesel engines and two gas turbines.

Gas Turbines:

These are situated below and behind the funnel because of their

requirement for large air intake. Such a location reduces the need for

space being taken up by ducting.

The two General Electric LM2500+ gas turbines will generate 25MW

of electricity each, which is equivalent to 81,000 shp. They run at

3,600 rpm and turn a generator through a reduction gearbox. The

turbines burn marine gas fuel oil and are generally only run when the

ship needs to achieve higher speeds.

Diesel Engines:

The four diesel engines generate electricity and are located low down

in the ship due to their size and weight. Each engine is 12.5 metres

long, 4.4 metres wide, 5.5 metres high and weighs 217 tonnes.

The diesel engines were built by Wartsila and are V engines with 16

cylinders. They have a bore of 460mm and a stroke of 580 mm.

As part of a big ship order with Lloyd Wert Group, Genting Hong Kong has announced two newbuilds for Star Cruises for 2019 and 2020.

The Star ships will be the Global Class for "worldwide" cruising at 201,000 tons and 5,000 lower berths.

I think Aponte still has time to adjust the design of the World Class ships if he indeed wants to have the largest ship at sea,,,but how many ports will be able to berth such a massive ship like that??? :confused:
