On board credit question

I know someone whose has been on Divina will be able to answer this for me. Please and thank you :)

If we add some on board credit to our account before we go and don't use it all, do they just refund it to the c.c at the end of the cruise or do we lose it?

We are thinking of doing it so it's all included and paid at final invoice time and then we can just forget about it.

If you add your money and it's not all used yes it's refundable. You only lose there OBC or a TA obc.

I have another question about onboard credit. We received our electronic cruise ticket yesterday. It listed an onboard credit amount that was one-half of the amount listed on our package from our TA's paperwork. I called our TA to see if there was an issue and she said an MSC rep told her the amount listed on the cruise ticket was per person (even though there are no words to indicate that is the case), so it adds up to the proper full amount.

I was of course a little skeptical, so I went on the MSC website and looked at "My Booking" there. It also said the one-half amount for the stateroom, but when I clicked the "Price Breakdown" button , it showed that one-half amount for each passenger. (Also I had purchased an 18 drink coupon package that was listed only by one person).

So I feel a little better about it, but still am not 100% sure. I am thinking there is definitely no additional funds from the TA itself, only what MSC offered, but how much was that and what happens if I get on the ship and they only offer the one-half amount?

Has anyone had a similar experience, and can you recall how it actually turned out?

Their OBC is always posted as per person.

Thanks!

So, to be clear if our cabin had $100 of OBC, we would expect to see $50 OBC listed on our cruise ticket and then online we would see $50 OBC listed by each person?

We got off Divina yesterday. We only used $125 of the $600 OBC that we paid directly to MSC prior to our cruise. We used the MSC website using our credit card to purchase laundry, Internet service, and OBC.

Upon disembarkation we were first told by a concierge in the Yacht Club that OBC is not refundable. We almost passed out as we had never heard of such a thing as we've always received any unused funds back at disembarkation. The concierge called Ivan in Accounting and sent us to speak to him at guest services.

Ivan was adamant that we would not receive our $475 back. We explained that it was money purchased by us using our credit card and directly from MSC. We provided copies of the emails directly from MSC substantiating our statements. He flat out told us they were not from MSC. We showed him our credit card statements showing payments to MSC. He then said that we would have to have our Travel Agent contact MSC and request the refund. We asked him to put that information in writing, but he refused to assist us.

I've left word for and I've sent emails to both MSC and my TA, and I intend to follow up first thing tomorrow morning.

It was such a stressful confrontation that I literally broke down in tears. It was incredibly embarrassing. I hope no one else will ever have to experience such poor customer relations. After spending over $4,000 on the Sophia Loren Grand Suite and booking a future suite on Seaside while onboard this cruise, I would have hoped MSC staff would have handled this much more professionally.

Our TA has confirmed that we have £100 on board credit, but when I check our reservation we have £100 against each of our names, should we be expecting £100 each or £50 each?

Ok on others cruise lines they say they will mail it to you not give it to you at debarkation however there is a way around it and should work on msc when its almost time for the casino to close out for the cruise.you go to a slot machine put your balance in and then play a couple of pulls close out and get your money

We have £500 OBC for our stateroom, and this also shows for us as £250/person. I've attached a screenshot here from the invoice, and it shows £250 but again this is listed as being for pax 1 and 2 - so we both get it.

Based on the horror stories around getting OBC back, I wouldn't bother. They'll just deduct the appropriate amount from your credit card at disembarkation anyway, so I don't see much point in forking over cash before necessary. Better to earn interest for you than for MSC in the interim period.

What exchange rate is used for prepaid credit?

In particular, when I buy prepaid credit for the Divina in GBP how does that show up in the onboard account? I see that other prepaid items (e.g. drinks, excursions) are using an exchange rate of about 1GBP to 1.49USD - does the same apply to onboard credit?

That's a fair point. I know Cunard and Celebrity were both allowing pre-paid OBC at a very favourable exchange rate given the current post-Brexit circumstances.

That might be one good reason to buy OBC.

a very easy way to solve this issue is, go to the casino, withdraw the amount you have as OBC, and get it in chips.

once you have the chips, immediately cash out, and they will give you actual cash.

problem solved.

I have done it many times before.
