Ocean View Cabin on deck 1, 2 VS Inside cabin on higher deck

Our first 2 weeks on our Nov back-to-back-to-back will be in a standard inside on deck 6. We have not had a standard inside since our first cruise in 2008.

We've had inside accessable, OV, Prominade View (PR on Royal), Balcony, and Suite. Just today I realized our Deck 6 inside is above the casino. Could be some noise maybe.

Our 3rd week will be in the 4J accessable, unless we are moved. Taking the good with the not so good. I'm sure we will enjoy the cruise wherever we are.

Are you sure they were asking you to confirm you were HC or were they asking if you would move if necessary? See my previous post.

Ok, now that you mention it, You're right ... they said we would be "moved" if needed. But I'm not too keen on giving Carnival control over where to move me ... as I'm assuming I would get moved to a TOTALLY inside cabin with no windows?! And would I be on the same deck or a lower, less desirable deck? ....or a cabin right under the 24 hour pizza shop? I've heard horror stories about certain cabins ....

Anyone know what a "comparable" cabin would be to a 4J?

When I read the "willing to relocate" clause, I think it said equal or better. Since there are only a few 4J cabins, and they are sold out, it has to be a better cabin you are moved too. The sky's the limit.

Interior - 1A, 3J (picture window), 4A, 4B, 4C, 4D, 4E, 4F, 4G, 4H,*4J (picture window & obstructed view), and 4K (french doors).

Ocean View - 6A, 6B, 6C.

Balcony - 7A (obstructed balcony), 7C (cove balcony), 8A, 8B, 8C, 8D, 8E, 8F, and 8G. 8M and 8N are Extended Balconies. 9B is a Premium Balcony. 9C is a Premium Vista Balcony.

Suite - JS (Junior Suite), OS (Ocean Suite), GS (Grand suite)

On a past cruise, I met a couple who booked a GTY OV and received a Family OV that could sleep up to 6 with 2 bathrooms and at least 2 windows. Basically, it like getting a GTY cabin. You'll get that cabin or a higher catagory. Not a lower one.

There is a possibility, as you mentioned, that we'll get placed in an obstructed OV or over the disco. We might get moved to a Balcony or better too, but I believe they'd move some Diamond pax in an OV to the good room, then move the folks in the 4J to the vacated OV.

Either way, we'll have some kind of window or something, I hope. Actually, it's kind of exciting, wondering where we'll be if we get moved.

Shhh from me too. OV Riviera or Main is the place to be !

Tell me why you like those OV so much??? Is it just to be easy to get back to your cabin when coming back to port? Please elaborate why you like those lower deck OV cabins so much????? :)

Thanks!

And there probably catagories that we don't even know about. There is one cabin type with a balcony door, but no balcony. The door opens to a railing just a few inches beyond the door and the side of a lifeboat a few inches past that. That's an NCL catagory, I think.

That's a French Balcony. A lot of lines have them, along with river boat ships. Sometimes they are done in dry dock on ships with few/no balconies, like CCL did with some of the Fantasy class, only with a smaller balcony.

Why OV?

The rooms are larger than the balcony rooms, cheaper, good location if you are near the front elevator bank. Close to the doors for getting on and off. Less motion.

Stay towards the front, under guest services or the theater. Don't go all the way to the front or the crashing waves on the bow will drive you bonkers.

We like deck two as close to the front stairs as possible. Great location.

Window, couch, easy on & off, midship by elevator,quiet...we have tried inside to balcony. Like the lower OV unless The ship has Cove balconies. So nice on port days to just go quickly to room. Couch is wayyyy important to me.

Other than the reason you stated, we like it because it's quiet, it's closer to the water, we can take the stairs to the MDR and the ride is smoother in rough seas.

I am so glad to hear all the positive comments regarding the Riviera deck as this will be my husband's first cruise and my second but I stayed in a balcony room with 2 friends. The balcony room was almost $400.00 more than the ov and we hardly used the balcony last time. I did not think we would get our money's worth out of it. I am sure we will have a wonderful time regardless of the room. Excited to be going....only 145 days and counting.

My last two cruises have been OV on deck 1. I always had a balcony before and wasn't sure I'd like the lower deck. I am not in my room all day and I hardly used the balcony. For the huge price difference, the OV was perfect for us. Being lower was not an issue at all. In fact, I was surprised by how high up the window still was from the water level. Never had water come close to hitting it!

I've never had an interior....maybe I need to try that next! :)

One of the Big travel magazines rated an inside on the Riviera Deck, midship, as the best bargain on any ship. Little noise. less motion if you are prone to sea sick discomfort.

I would pick OV. You don't see water lapping at your window. You do get a good view of ports. Get up in the night and see lights from other ships. Land sometimes.

I remember when we first started cruising. I woke up and was starring out the window. for as far as I could see......lights on a shore where not land was supposed to be.

Next day I learned those lights were Cuba. The land that did not exist for 50 years. I am glad they exist again.

Ocean views on Conquest ships are bigger than balcony/ You get 225 sq. feet.

and you are close to restaurants. shore desk. ship desk. clinic. Casino straight up as it Lido.

I don't like staying on the Lido.

My favorite is empress in a suite but that happens very seldom. Second best.. Balcony on the Empress or Upper deck. then an Ocean view. Then an inside on the Upper Deck. Front. which is close to a "secret" deck. Very quiet there.

Actually.we have never had a bad cabin on Carnival. For real.

I popped for a balcony for Next year........2016 because they are still reasonable. But when we sail on the Sunshine. We have one of the lobby cabins..Inside but with a window. Love those cabins.

I don't spend time on a balcony. In the summer My husband does not. But.........it is like another room in that he can go out there while I dress or shower. And I love him and like to humor him and he wanted one as we will have 4 sea days on that 2016 cruise, so I did it.

If It were just me...............and a female relative.........Oceanview every time. Insides......I miss the sofa. I miss the light. I sleep well. I can't wake up. We have to have the desk call us. They are a little tight. Claustrophobic for my husband.

I do love a Cove Balcony. that enclosed feeling.....a roof over your head.........i really like them. I think they are one of the best bargains out there. AND you do see fish then.

And the Stars..............wow

and total privacy.

OV on a low deck no problem; but avoid the lowest deck if noise is a concern only because deck plans won't show you what machinery is under deck 1. But at least with deck 2 you know you have cabins below and you can avoid noisy areas on deck 3.

I've had mid/upper deck interiors and they are fine, but if the price isn't much different I prefer the oceanview. Also had a balcony once and did not use it much.

I really see no cons to a lower deck OV is you look at the deck plans and make sure you aren't under a loud spot.

Wow ... So many pros/cons to each room type...I still don't know what to pick? I'm concerned with an inside cabin I might feel "closed in" and slightly claustrophobic without a window ... and the lady that mentioned seeing the water hit the window of those lower OV cabins... well, that kinda freaked me out, lol. Not sure how "peaceful" it would be looking out my window at the ocean literally on the other side ... with only a little glass window separating me from water in the cabin, lol........ The lady that mentioned category 4J, inside with obscured view ... I think I tried to book one of those but got an error because I wasn't handycapped??

Please keep your comments coming, even if they are "the same" as what other people have already said, as I am keeping a tally :):)

Thanks all!

They must have changed the rules regarding booking HC cabins, you used to be able to book them and would get a message indicating you would be moved if you didn't need it and another party did. BUT not all 4J's are HC's.............the corner ones usually are (but not always) but the middle ones are not. I have 9201 booked on the Breeze, it's a 4J non-HC cabin.

I have one of those lovely Grand Scenic cabins booked on my upcoming 9/26 Glory cruise; I had to book it 17 months ago, I'm excited it's finally close!

I just booked A 4J on the Sunshine a week ago and it is a HC room. My PVP did it for me no questions asked. I did it knowing I could be taken out and that they would have to give me as good if not better room. If they don't they owe me some money back. I really don't get why they put in HC rooms all the way to the front of the ship. Seems inconvenient for someone with mobility issues. I was never even asked if I needed it. I will gladly give it up if I need to but if not I am going to enjoy it.

I have been booking them off & on for a few years and actually DID get moved from a spa version (can't remember the number/letter combo) of the HC cabin and got bumped to a spa balcony. No harm no foul!

But be careful discussing it in these boards, I have been attacked more than once; some CC people jump up and down and say "*I* would never book a handicap room I didn't need, it's just not right", and things like "karma is a bitch", etc. Like they don't use a HC stall in a public bathroom if nobody present needs it?

I see nothing wrong with reserving this cabin - first of all, Carnival can move me if a HC person needs the room ... But you can BET that carnival won't sail with these empty anyway ... If they were not booked then a lucky inside would get upgraded into 4J and they would sell the inside one. :-)

We're boring - we always book inside Riviera mid-ship (4B). Less motion, away from all of the noise/action of the upper decks, easy on/off to/from ports along with the possibility of getting exercise by using the stairs. As for darkness, we keep the TV on the cam channel. That's our "window". When it gets light outside in the AM, it gets light in the room. :p
