From the London/UK Daily Mail travel section yesterday, they have this overall headline: "ten hottest travel spots for 2017 " with this highlight subhead: "Wine, walks and wonders of Chile".

Here are some of the highlights cited: "The fantastically long and narrow country of Chile is one of the most remote in South America. But a new direct British Airways flight to Santiago changes all that. It is easier than ever to experience the moon-like landscapes of the Atacama Desert, sip some of the world’s best wines at vineyards, hike in the Andes or explore the fjords, glaciers and penguin-filled islands of Patagonia. When to go: Now. Chile’s seasons are the reverse of ours, so Santiago basks in temperatures of around 30c in January and February, with warm weather until April."

Have been nearby in Argentina, but need to visit Chile and enjoy its many interesting options and sights. Have Chile on our to-do, future listing. Others experiences and tip to share from those who have been there? Don't be shy. Tell us more about your loves from being in Chile.

From our Jan. 25-Feb. 20, 2015, Amazon River-Caribbean combo sailing over 26 days that started in Barbados, here is the link below to that live/blog. Lots of great visuals from this amazing Brazil river and these various Caribbean Islands (Dutch ABC's, St. Barts, Dominica, Grenada, etc.) that we experienced. Check it out at:

We have done two cruises that visited Chile. First was through the Panama Canal down the W. coast of SA to Valpariasio. Second was Around the Horn.

Chile is probably the most stable SA country. I will remind you more of Europe.

The food is great, especially the sea food (crab and sea bass). Loved the empanadas stuffed with crab. Wines are excellent.

Also, Chile is inexpensive.

Here are my reviews on both cruises.

I love Chile and with the new #British Airways direct flight to #Santiago we will be there again soon.

The Atacama desert is a must. Torres del Paine in the South is a must. Lake district and Chiloe Island is a must. Rapa Nui (Easter Island) is a must. Santiago and Valparaiso are a must. Wine tours and horse riding are great activities to be done in Chile.

We did a transfer wine tour with http://www.winetoursvalparaiso.cl. It's run by a British expat and we shall be using their services again.

All the best

Tonight is our last night in Chile. We enjoyed the south. We enjoyed Valparaiso very much. It is unique. Santiago was fine but really just another big city. Enjoyed Santa Cruz and the Valley.

Economy seems to be booming. More expensive than Argentina or Uruguay.

Appreciate these excellent above updates, comments and the great follow-up. Yes, it's fun exploring and seeing these cultures, lifestyles, history, etc. Chile is still strongly on our future "to-do" list. But, been busy in other locations. Below is a connection for a live/blog from our March experiences in doing our first stops in Colombia, Central America and Mexico, plus added time in the great San Francisco. Very special and interesting in seeing the Panama Canal and learning about its creation/construction.

Getting ready in six days to be departing for Lisbon and our first visit to Portugal. Then, we will be seeing NW Spain, Bordeaux and Brittany also for the first times in these charming regions. Will do a live/blog for these "adventures". Join in and feel free to ask any questions as we sail.

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

Panama Canal? Just completed Feb. 28-Mar. 15, 2017, Fort Lauderdale to San Francisco adventure through the Panama Canal with our first stops in Colombia, Central America and Mexico, plus added time in the great Golden Gate City. Lots of fun pictures!! Those pictures start on the second page, post #26. See more at:
