How many bars, clubs and lounges onboard the Independence of the Seas?

Recommended Posts

How many bars, club and lounges are their onboard the indy? RCI site says 5 bars including karaoke? There can't be 5 for a ship of 4000 people? And do you need to book to go in them?

Discuss. Thanks.

Most passengers do not "hang" out in the lounges. There are many bars spread out around the ship. These are just places to get drinks, and not a lounge. Example is the bar next to the swimming pools. I think there are at least 3 on the pool deck. You would have a bar also in each of the showrooms, such as the main theater, the ice skating rink etc. Although some areas can get crowded, most do not and you never need to book them to get in. People come in go as they please, because the evenings are filled with shows, entertainment and fun.

Is there a bar overlooking the top of the ship like the Commerdore club on the Queen Mary 2?

Why is the Viking Crown Lounge not listed on the RCI website? And also is their a nightclub onboard?

I believe Indy still has the two-deck nightclub on decks 3 and 4, near Schooner. However, I assume that will be removed at the next dry dock in April 2018, as has happened to other Voyager/Freedom class ships.

See this for the Viking Crown location:

The Sky Bar outisde on deck 12, and the already mentioned Viking Crown bar ("Olive or Twist" inside on deck 14). These bars are not open all the time. Also, you can get a drink from any opened bar and take it most anywhere on the ship. If taking it to the pool area, let the bar know so they can use a plastic glass. (Bars in the pool area always use plastic.) FYI: The bars and cafes on deck 5 (Royal Promenade) are great for sitting and watching people.

I suspect the Raven nightclub will turned into cabins and another specialty restaurant. See the deck plans for the Liberty of the Seas, a ship similar to the Indy. If this happens, the Viking Crown will become the disco at night. The disco has a DJ.The Schooner bar is a piano bar -- deck 4 forward from the casino. Another bar (either deck 4 behind the casino, or the lounge forward on deck 5) will have a 3 or 4 piece dance band. There might be karaoke in the On Air Club lounge on deck 3 (between the dining room and Studio B, deck 3). And an ice show in Studio B. And shows in the main theater (deck 3 and 4 forward) -- all included in the price.

What about the drinks packages? Only one person travelling drinks the other is a friend of bill w. It is worth getting a drink package for one person to use?

Each person can get their own package. It does not need to match the other persons. Example is one get the full drink package, and the other a soda package. No problem.

No. There is no sharing of packages and staff do monitor.

Your friend that doesn't drink could either purchase a soda only package, or a package that covers virgin cocktails, bottled water, fresh squeezed juice, etc. They could also get no package and just drink the drinks included with the cruise fare, such as tap water, coffee, hot and iced tea, white and chocolate milk, flavored waters, lemonade (American style; not soda), juice at breakfast, hot chocolate, etc.

Would they know?

Yes. You have to show your Seapass card. Drinks are one at a time. Monitored by staff. If you are caught sharing package will be canceled with no refunds. Really not worth it. There are plenty of "free" options for the passenger not wanting the alcoholic package. Or purchase a soda package, or individual sodas; depending on how many they would consume.

What is a "seapass card?" Is that the key card you get when you go onboard the ship? On cunard we have been able to get drinks for both persons on one room card and nothing was ever mentioned.

Yes, Royal calls the key / charging card a SeaPass card.

You can buy as many drinks as you like on one SeaPass card. However, if you want to use an unlimited beverage package, then you can only get one drink at a time with one card.

VCL is what we call it./. it may be listed as Olive or Twist or another name on the deck plans. simply, it is the area at the topmost deck that is surrounded by glass on three sides

define 'night club'. at least one bar will go 18 and up after 9 or 10 pm and will be classified as the venue for late night entertainment( which could be nothing more than piped in music)

not all venues will open at the same time. some do not start serving until mid afternoon or after dinner. Pool bars usually are open early, as is the one by the Windjammer or the ones on the Promenade only one or two will be open past midnight.

no you cannot buy one package for two people and yes they DO track the usage and they WILL closely monitor if they suspect you are not abiding by the rules.. end result being your package gets canceled and you are retroactively charged for EVERY drink you have consumed up to that point.

You would probably also be banned from travelling with RCI again. We won't bother with drinks package at all. I don't think I would drink enough to profit from it anyway. We are not going transatlantic only 2 sea days

The RCI website does not appear to list most of the things onboard unless you go into the deck plans. I find that strange.

Each RCI ship class varies in some ways from each other and offer different venues. The RCI website handles this information by identifying everything related to that given ship by going to the individual ship tab by ship class. Each venue is identified there along with the deck plans. There are general tabs describing on board activities, all dining venues fleet wide, beverage packages, etc., at the bottom of each ship webpage.

Drink package: If you are in a grand suite or higher, I think you get free drinks each evening. This might influence whether or not you get the drink package. (Diamond members and higher also get free drinks each evening.)
