Chair hog solution?

I have noticed several postings about how the pool deck chairs are now being decorated with towel animals first thing in the morning. Do you think this might be an attempt on the part of Carnival to help alleviate the chair hog situation? That perhaps folks won't be so quick to hog up chairs, because they already have towels on them?

Just curious,

I've posted this for years:

The solution to "chair hogging" is to move the crap people piled on a chair. (you can ALWAYS tell who's actually using the chairs and who's "saving" them) It doesn't mean that much to them or they wouldn't leave it lying around. Second to that, my kids are in the pool and I'm going to watch them. I've never had anyone say a single word to me "if" they ever even came back. If they ever do, I'll stand up and start waving and screaming at the nearest Carnival employee that someone is harassing me and I need security!!

ps...thanks to that one person who left the orange. It was tasty! The one flip flop in one lounger, the other flip flop in the next lounger, the towel in the next one and the magazine in the next one was kind of lame, though.

I don't hog chairs but when I do go in the pool I leave my stuff on the chair. Luckily nobody has ever moved my stuff but without a little timer ( which I'm thinking of coming up with something) how is one to know I'm coming back soon? When I'm searching for a chair I just keep searching, I can't see standing around timing other people on my vacation. I do agree Carnival employees are the ones that should enforce their rules. I guess it's a matter of individual tolerances.

Who watches chairs or "times" other people? I don't.

When you come to the pool and drop your things off, you probably have a bag, towel, sunscreen, glasses, ect...like most people who are using the pool, right? I doubt you put one flip flop in the chair or one book or an orange to go swim. Those are the people hogging chairs and I move their junk to actually use the chair. (Actually we don't just move it, we hand it over to the bartender or the wait staff.)

Like I said in a previous post, you can always tell who's "saving" themselves a chair while they sleep the morning away or go play bingo but "might" want to swim later. My kids cruise with me and I need to watch them to make sure they are safe and/or not splashing other passengers, etc...

On our last cruise, up on the serenity deck, a Carnival employee put tags on loungers that were 'being saved' with the time written on it. After 30-40 minutes, that employee return and removed the chair saving items. There were several loungers around us this was done, and about 1/2 of the peolpe did return in that time frame.

Yes, I usually have my watch and sail and sign tucked into my shoes, a magazine and a drink! Seems some people do actually spend their quality time watching and timing from reading these posts. I am glad you don't! I do think that chair hogging will never go away.

What bothers me just a little.... are the group of young people that each feel the need to have one of the large Blue Beds on the serenity deck. 4 small people can lay on one of those, but instead there is one tiny little person taking up at least 3-4 of them.

I do not chair hog but I also bring very little to the pool with us, only towels. We go in the pool for a while then get out for a bit. God help the person that steals my chair and towel while I spend a little time in the pool. Carnival security can escort them out of the area.

I thought I read moths ago that Carnival was going to be putting stickers on the chairs of what time people stuff was discovered and removing the stuff after the allowed time had passed.

They are obviously not doing this. Really this is the solution. Set up a stand at the pool where people can claim their stuff when it's moved. Honestly a few deck employees could manage this and it would make the everything much more enjoyable for everyone, except maybe the chair hogs themselves.

One problem that we always had with Carnival was "chair-hogs" People would take the chairs, early, early in the A.M. and keep it the whole day by leaving a towel or a book on it. Usually the staff has done nothing and we do not want to get into an argument about this.

We just completed a cruise on the Allure. Despite the number of people there were ample deck chairs throughout the pool area. In additon, while there may have been some "chair-hogs" we did not see or experience them. Pleasant surprise.

We were recently on the Miracle and my "saved" chair was tagged on the Serenity deck.

I went out about 6:15AM, put our stuff down on a pod (other early risers were doing the same and some pods were taken even before I got there). I went to work out, came back a little after 7 to see the sticker on our chair marked for 7AM.

We didn't know what to do with the tag, but we removed it b/c we were planning on being there all day and were concerned if we left for a minute the staff would came by and we would be hosed.

We were indeed there the WHOLE day except for a few short potty and food breaks. (We loved the pod..our favorite part of the ship. Anyone know who sells them?) We tried to have one of us there at all times so people didn't think we were chair saving, but it wasn't always possible.

We didn't see or notice the staff come by to check the chairs or tags tho', so I really don't know their system. Or maybe they did during one of those breaks but had seen us there so didn't remove stuff? I would have expected a new tag to be placed then.

I can't think of a good way to manage this crazy mess. Maybe they could do something on the Serenity deck (e.g. first come-first serve reservations starting at 7AM for spaces in 4 hr slots?), but the rest of the ship would be a nightmare.

Here is a solution:

On day 1 at 3pm, Diamonds get first pick and get to hang a name tag on the chair of their choice and then Platinum's choose and then Gold and Red and Blue get chairs without name tags. If you don't want a chair, don't show up.

First...a chair is not SOMEONE'S for the whole day. If you go eat, sorry you should loose your chair. Chairs are for people sitting in them. If you spend hours dunking your feet into the pool...why do you need a chair for your stuff. Just pile it in a corner and retrieve it and find a chair after your wet toes session is over.

I believe people who are chair hogs are intrinsically rude...so chairs with only towels are not, in my book, being USED, I have no qualms with moving the towel and planting my butt in said chair.

Also, there are hundreds of unused loungers on most ships away from the pool area. So if you are not there to swim or dip then find a place to sunbath so that others can enjoy the water activities.

We were on the Breeze last week (2/14-22). On the Serenity deck they were stickering chairs. I asked the bartender and he said the were only doing it on the Serenity deck during prime hours.

We had 4 sea days and at times there were nearly no chairs available from 10a to 2p. I have zero problem with someone claiming a chair as long as they're actually using it. I think it's okay to get up to go to lunch, take a quick dip to cool off or go get a drink. I think the 30-40 minute window is very fair. If you're gone longer than that, you lose the chair.

On the Breeze last month , the towel atendents were watching the chairs and would walk out and remove all items left for any length of time . I watched them for a bit , someone leaves a chair or group leaves ,but leaves towel's book's ect after 15-20 minutes they picked up everything and stored behind the towel counter. By day 5-6 they pretty well have the chair hogs trained .

It was really fun seeing people return and the the new chair holders ,responding , there was nothing here when we sat down . The look on their faces ,just staring all around the deck for their stuff. Usually a person sitting nearby would point them to the towel guys , Who let them know not to leave items.

Hey, what's wrong with a chair hog? They deserve a chair just as much as we do! :D

Maybe if you want to save a chair, print this image and write the time you saved your chair. Haha
