One of the reasons I chose HAL..and a big one ..is because of their piano bars.

It sure looks like it is (HAL's intention to do away with Piano Bars, that is). First they removed the walls and opened up the area to change it to The Mix, on some of the ships. Very different atmosphere than the Piano Bars (S-ships), and even the Piano Lounges (R-ships) were.

Now, the Piano Bars on the Vista/Signature ships are being removed and replaced with Dueling Pianos. Not at all a piano bar in the true sense. Just another entertainment venue, but not at all the same.

You really lucked out ... Jimmy Maddox just got on the Zaandam this week. One of the best, enjoy !

I don't know the length of HAL's partnership with Billboard, but I would imagine that they would have to keep the dual piano concept at least that long.

My adult daughters and I were on Westerdam Thanksgiving week. I had never been to a piano bar before. Strykers piano playing and unbelievably wonderful voice pulled me in. I went almost every night. I ended up buying his cd before I left the ship and this is so out of character for me. I'm taking a transition cruise in April and dearly wished he would be on it but I'm sure they'll have him in Europe by then. If you are lucky enough to be on a ship where he is performing be sure and spend some time in his pano bar.

Gotta disagree after seeing them in action on the Eurodam for two weeks. Depending on how good the pianists mesh, it can be great fun. The two young men had the crowd engaged at every turn, singing along and carrying a verse or two on their own (the crowd) every few songs. People were there from beginning to end, having a blast.

Big hit on the Eurodam, anyway.

Was on the Westerdam with Stryker a few weeks ago, he said he would be there until January 7th.

We were on the Zuiderdam in late 2015 and the piano bar and artist were wonderful. We just completed 21 days on the Oosterdam and the piano bar is gone and replaced by "Billboard Onboard". They eliminated the bar next door to the old Piano bar, and also removed the walls separating the piano bar from the casino. The area is huge now, and this is obviously a way to turn an intimate piano bar into a way to sell a lot more drinks. All you hear during the dual piano sets is the ching-ching-ching of the damn slot machines across the walkway. We had a male-female pair of piano players who were, at best, passable. They could play a piano, but singing...... forget about it. Yes, they did have one of their three, 45 minute sets setup for requests, but many requests were not played or they played a short segment of the song and went back into the standard playlist.

We will be on the Nieuw Amsterdam Sept 30, 2017, BEFORE drydock in November. We will still have an intimate piano bar with one piano, but it's days are numbered. Does anyone know who will be the artist in late September ?

When are you on the Oosterdam??? We are on there also from March 10 to March 31. We were on the Oosterdam in September in the Med and still have mixed feelings about the Dueling Pianos. Hopefully, they will be better on this cruise.

We are on a quickie. 7 days starting Feb 24 until March 3. It is a trip with my 3 siblings and a few cousins to western carib. I'll give you a report when I get back, but I am not expecting the same vibe as Jimmy.
