Crown - Honest Opinion of L101-104 Staterooms

Hi there. I booked L104 on the Crown Princess for our Dec 18 2010 cruise and I'm looking for HONEST OPINIONS. I've heard mixed reviews about the noise from the gym as well as the obstructed view. Also, I pretty much had my choice of L101, L102, L103,L104 and I choose L104 because it looked the largest. Is it? Thanks!

My guess is that you will hear some noise from the gym but I don't know for sure. I just know from experience that any time you have a public room or deck above your cabin where people are moving around, you'll hear something. As you are on a higher deck and pretty much as far forward as possible, you will experience a lot more movement than further back or on a lower deck. It'll mostly be up-and-down movement as the bow goes up and down. If you are sensitive to motion, this is probably not the best location to be. Some people, like myself, enjoy the motion but not everyone does.

Looking at the deck plans L104 is not larger, just looks as though the hallway has a different layout

My friends stayed in L101 on the Caribbean Princess and it was a great cabin. It was really large with a great seating area with a table and two tub chairs and there was tons of room around the bed, I mean lots of floor space in this cabin. They weren't bothered by noise from the gym because they limited how early and late you could use the treadmills in the gym. I forget the hours but the never interfered with their sleep.

The edge of thee aerobics room is directly above you. The gym hours are normally 7am to about 10 pm although the crew might occasionally use the aerobics room up to 11pm if there is a special exercise routine going on. From 7am to 7:30am there is a stretching class in the aerobics room which certainly should not disturb you and then some form of aerobic exercise from 7:30 to 8. I think you have chosen well on the off chance that any noise does penetrate from the deck above you are not directly under it.

hi meredisney....

we have a general rule with selecting cabins so that there are no surprises....

not RIGHT near elevator but not too far for it to be an inconvenience, tenders not in immediate vicinity (not a concern of course when ship docks at all ports), no common area above us (promenade deck, restaurant, passageway, gym, shopping mall, casino or other "common" area), or below (although not as important as above), and having surrounding cabins that can only accommodate 2 people.... I love families having holidays but screaming children or adolescents is not a right mix for a relaxing cruise.... then again, this isn't really a problem as we NEVER cruise during school vacations....

I am wondering about the observation deck in front of these cabins. Do a lot of people go out there? Are there lounge chairs? Can you hear people talking thru the window?

That area is on top of the bridge and is only open when in port or right at sailing. Once underway, it's locked as it's too windy. So the only time there would be a lot of people out there would be at sailaways. There are no lounge chairs. I would imagine you probably can hear some noise through the window if there's a crowd but again, it's not likely that there are that many people out there except during sailaways, when you're probably not going to be in your cabin anyway.

Thanks for the quick reply.

We're on the Emerald and have been "upgraded" to L101. What you said makes me feel a bit better. But, also a problem is that we are under the fitness center so there could be noise problem.

Leave it to us to get a cabin like this!

You're welcome!

I wouldn't worry too much (mostly because my philosophy is to try not to worry about things I can't do anything about!). People aren't supposed to use the treadmills before 8am and it's closed at night. Me, I think they're in a cool location -- very quiet hallway with no traffic to speak of plus I'd like that forward-facing view, and you'll be close to the pools and the burger & pizza grills. Glass half-full, right?

Thanks for the kind advice. I do like being on the same deck as the pools, food, etc., and one deck up (besides the fitness center) is the spa pool, etc. That all sounds good.

Here are some pics of the view/observation deck I found on another thread: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=576781
