Visit to St. Lambert - Montreal

We are two seniors who will be disembarking in Montreal in Mid-October and plan to stay a few days in Montreal. During this time we will be making a few visits to St. Lambert to see friends. We want to stay in Montreal and wonder which Montreal hotels would be most convenient for transportation to St. Lambert (and what transportation options exist). Would the metro be a reasonable option or too difficult for 80 year-olds?
