Janiculum Hill / Rome

We are interested in exploring Trastavere and heading over to the Janiculum Hill to get a great view of Rome.

Many spots on the net mention it is a strenuous walk up the hill. We are staying near Piazza Navona. Can anyone suggest a good way to get over to the area and up the hill? We know that the #8 tram goes along the main drag in Trastavere but not too neat the hill itself.

Is a cab the best way? We want to have dinner near St. Cecilia and if we did get to the hill, how tough a walk is it back to "the other side" of Trastavere?

Thanks!

The downhill walk is quite easy and there are stairs that cut the distance through the "S" curves.

You could take a cab up or you can use the bus. I love the walk but I realize it's not for everyone. One of the problems with motorized travel is that you zip right past the Fontana dell'Acqua Paola (the opening shots of "La Grande Bellezza") but it is a tough walk up if you're not used to walking.

The bus is the #115. There are a couple of places to pick it up but if you want to avoid all uphill walking get it on Via Morosini, just off Viale Trastevere.

You can see the bus route here: http://viaggiacon.atac.roma.it/?service=trovalinea&linea=115&percorso=115AT
