Check in closure - Southampton?

G'day, on September 17 and October 20 we are embarking Aurora and Oriana from Ocean Terminal Southampton. Given sailing time for Aurora is 5pm and for Oriana 4.30pm. My question is: 'What time would check in close prior to sailing?' We prefer to check in fairly late, as we have a Hertz rental car pre Aurora and pre Oriana, so have that to drop off after driving in from different parts of England, contributing to the British economy.
