Carnival Ecstasy

Hey, I'm new to cruising- three under my belt and about to go on my fourth. How is the Carnival Ecstasy? Is the ride bumpy because of the small size? Will I be disappointed because it is old? Recommendations on what to do the boat? How is the cruise director?

This will be a five day cruise to the Bahamas.

Sorry for the loaded question, my mother and I are anxious for my grandmother and ourselves. My grandmother has high expectations.

Whether or not you will be disappointed with the Ecstasy is a matter of personal preference. It is an older and smaller ship, fewer amenities, but many people love the simplicity of an older ship. We have had a great time on all of our cruises, whatever the ship. Each experience is a little different, depending on the ship, who we were with, the itinerary, fellow passengers, and any number of variables. Go with an open mind and see what happens.

First, Ecstasy is NOT a small ship; at 70,000 tons, she is quite large; 50% larger than Titanic was! She is just "smaller" than the "mega" ships. When seas are rough she'll rock n' roll just like the mega ones will, maybe a bit more, but that's about it.

Yes, she is "older", but she is middle aged as ships go- nothing wrong with that.

Now, if you need all the bells and whistles of the much larger ships, and you happen to dislike Joe Farcus interior designs, then she might not be for you.

Depends what you want from a cruise? If you want a mega floating hotel, Ecstasy is not for you. She is one of my favorite Carnival ships. We have been on Breeze and everything in between and we still prefer Ecstasy. The crowds are almost non existant. We never waited in line at any food venues, getting off the boat, getting back on the boat and disembarking when we got back to Charleston.

Lines on Breeze, Dream and Pride were sooooo long trying to get off at ports. And food lines, Guys, the buffet, etc had at least a 10-15 minute wait. Which really isn't that bad but I prefer to walk up and get my food when I am ready to eat.

Also, the Ecstasy crew were amazing as was Charleston port. You can tell I'm putting in a plug for this ship:) I just cruised in September so I'm still cruise happy. I go in November on Glory and next May on Sunshine. We will have fun on these ships as well!

Any cruise is a good cruise!!

One more thing....the price was great!!

I don't think you'll be disappointed at all. I was a little worried that I'd be bored on the Ecstasy, since we have been sailing some of the newer/larger ships lately. However, I just sailed on the Ecstasy last week, and my family and I absolutely loved it! The cruise director was great, and the entertainment at the shows was much better than I have seen on many of the other ships. We found the size of the ship to be perfect...not too big, not too small.

In fact, we loved it so much, we went ahead an booked another cruise on a sister ship, the Elation, for December. Enjoy!

We returned from Ecstasy last week. We had a great time. The shows were great, the CD was fun and the staff was amazing. I highly recommend cruising on her.

I was on the Ecstasy earlier this month. We really enjoyed the cruise. She is an older ship that has been well maintained. There are some signs of aging her and there, but nothing that stopped me from enjoying my cruise.

If the sea are a little rough, it can get a little bumpy. I was on the cruise that the lady jumped over board on. Our last sea day was rough as they had the ship in full throttle trying to make up seven hours of time after were delayed by the search, but the swells were a few feet high which didn't help.

I love the Fantasy class ships! They are still huge, and feel a lot less crowded than the larger ship that I have been on.

Look up the amenities online for the ship and take a look at the Fun Times each day to see what you would like to do.

Benjamin Lambert was our CD. He and the rest of the entertainment staff were by far the best that we have encountered yet while cruising.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any other questions.
